SBMA, PPSA eyes partnership to train future Fire Marshalls

Region 3

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), through its Fire Department, and the Philippine Public Safety Academy (PPSA) are set to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to train the latter’s cadets for a future career in firefighting. SBMA Fire Chief Ranny Magno revealed this plan during the graduation ceremony for the Fire Cadets of PPSA Class of 2025 who have completed the comprehensive Advance Firefighting Training from March 24 to 28, 2025. “I do hope that for the next batch of cadets, the SBMA and PPSA will already have a formal agreement so that this kind of training can be done on a regular basis,” Magno added. Recently, 37 cadets of the “Madayawlahi” Class of 2025, the second batch of PPSA students underwent a week-long intensive firefighting training, including Fire Suppression and Control, and Tactics, and Strategies, where the cadets were able to experience firefighting via simulated exercises. This specialized training also provided them with hands-on experience with modern firefighting equipment, tools, and tactical scenarios. PPSA Commandant of Cadets Mark Anthony S. Saquing expressed his appreciation to the personnel of the SBMA Fire Department for actively playing a vital role in implementing the program with them. He also thanked Fire Chief Magno, who was also the Course Director, as well as his training team composed of Deputy Fire Chief Edwin Santos, John Patrick Ablaza., Alvin Laconsay and Romano Custodio for mentoring their cadets. Saguing said that the training provided a deeper understanding of fireground tactics, the science behind fire behavior, and the leadership required to protect communities in high-stakes emergencies, which are essential qualities for public safety officers. “The fires that you battle are not just those that burn in buildings, but also the challenges that will test your character, endurance, and willpower. Through this training, you have gained not only the knowledge and skills but also the spirit of a true firefighter, one who never gives up, never backs down, and always stands firm in the face of adversity,” Saquing addressed his cadets. PPSA was created under DILG Circular No. 2022-009 otherwise known as the “Creation and Operationalization of Philippine Public Safety Academy pursuant to Republic Act 11279.” It offers graduate degree courses for personnel of the BFP and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) namely, Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Penology and Corrections Administration. Voters in Bondoc Peninsula upset by candidates’ non-attendance in the forum

Region 4

By Danny Estacio   CATANAUAN, Quezon- The people of Bondoc Peninsula district were disappointed after some district candidates failed to show up at the Candidates’ forum organized by the Gumaca Diocese on Sunday evening, April 6, at Enverga University gymnasium, here. Only this district will have candidates running for the position in the House of Representatives between re-electionist Rep. Reynante Arrogancia and Gen. Luna Mayor Matt Erwin Florido, but only Florido attended the forum. Organizers aimed to let the voters know the platforms of candidates, whether for the provincial boards that represent the district, and most importantly position for the House of Representatives. Arrogancia failed to attend, and the voters were deprived of knowledge about his development programs in the economic, infrastructure, social services, education, health, and livelihood that will uplift the living of the Bondoc Peninsula. Political observers said the battle between Arrogancia and Florido is just like David and Goliath. On the part of Florido, his presence on the forum is to prove that he is ready to face the issue and let the people know his platform, especially on poverty. The province’s first district Representative Mark Enverga, second district Rep. David Jayjay Suarez, and fourth district Rep. Mike Tan are unopposed for the 2025 national and local elections come May 12.

Win-win solution for market development- Sembrano

Baguio City, Inside Politics

BAGUIO CITY – “I go for a win-win solution for all stakeholders, and first and foremost protection of vendors is my concern,” said city councilor candidate Elaine Sembrano, in relation to the Market Development of the Baguio City Public Market. According to Sembrano, whoever develops our market should finish it and give priority to protecting the vendors here. “If the city government really takes over, because that is what the majority wants, then our city can finish it. Just don’t do the rehabilitation in a piecemeal manner, because otherwise, nothing will happen and it will never be finished,” Sembrano said. Sembrano was a City Councilor from 2007 to 2010 and held the Market, Trade, Commerce and Agriculture as chairperson and his committee continued from 2013 to 2016. “I just call, let’s choose who can finish the rehabilitation of our market and not neglect our vendors and also for their sake that they be comfortable in their sales.” “To our constituents of Baguio, let us go for a win-win solution for our market, but first of all is the concern of our vendors, who should be given the right place, comfortable seats and a clean place for the tourists who come,” Sembrano said.(PR)

Globe joins international telecom leaders in pioneering Green Network study from GSMA Intelligence

NCR

As a company dedicated to environmental responsibility, Globe played a key role in GSMA Intelligence’s (GSMAi) Green Network Index (GNI) study, a pioneering initiative establishing new industry benchmarks for network sustainability. Globe is one of only six telecom companies worldwide to participate in the inaugural project, proving its dedication to leading environmental sustainability efforts by actively engaging in research that drives greener networks and reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the industry. “We recognize the importance of collaboration in shaping a more sustainable telecom sector. Our contribution to the GNI study reflects our commitment to integrating sustainable practices that strengthen both our industry and our journey toward Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer. Apple Evangelista, Globe’s Head of Sustainability and Social Responsibility, added: “Through the GNI, we are gaining valuable insights that will help us refine our approach to energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and overall network sustainability.” Global support for greener telecom networks is growing. A majority of telecom operators, representing 70% of the industry’s revenues, have already aligned their commitments with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to reduce GHG emissions. This was driven by rising energy costs, which account for 15-20% of a telco’s operational expenditures, emphasizing the need for energy efficiency. Moreover, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting is gaining traction among credit-rating agencies and financial analysts, making a standardized metric for assessing sustainability across different geographies and network technologies essential. In response, GSMAi developed the GNI, which consolidates various factors into a single comprehensive figure to improve comparability across telecom operators and guide companies in their green evolution. “Tracking progress on mobile network operators’ energy sustainability is critical in driving meaningful change. Our Green Network Index helps operators to achieve that goal by enabling them to make informed decisions that support a greener, more sustainable future,” said Tim Hatt, Head of Research, GSMA Intelligence. The GNI builds on GSMAi’s previous energy efficiency analysis and expands it into a system-wide index that considers energy and carbon efficiency, renewable energy usage, performance and availability, and vertical enablement. By actively supporting GSMAi’s sustainability research and initiatives, Globe drives positive change in the telecom industry and strengthens its leadership in green network innovation. The first round of the GNI Study can be downloaded on GSMAi’s website after registering for a free public account. This can be accessed through the following link: https://www.gsmaintelligence.com/research/green-networks-index-round-one

P300-M Pilando Bridge masisimulan na – Cong.Yap

CAR

Yap. “We also requested for a revision of the design, para mas mura at mabilis gawin, it will not longer be a cable-stayed bridge pero we will make sure na matibay. Aapela kami para sa iyong pasensya, ito ay magtatagal ngunit sisiguraduhin kong sapat na pondo ang makukuha para matapos ito.” Sa kanyang mensahe “Mga kailyan, I am committed to provide long term solutions to our perennial problems.

This is a testament to the resilience and persistece, both of which are values that an athlete needs to have in order to succeed. After a lot of hard work, we are finally here and I firmly believe that the preparations for this national game was a unifying factor for many,” pahayag nito. Samantala, naging panahuhing pandangal naman sa naturang palaro sina Sen. Imee Marcos at Sen. Baguio City

Mayor Benjamin Magalong delivered an insightful message during the Empowering Communities on Sustainable Development and Low-Carbon Transition activity held at Ion Hotel, Legarda Road, Baguio City In his message, Mayor Magalong stressed the importance of actively pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals and reducing carbon emissions. He noted the increasingly drastic changes occurring in our environment, such as rising ocean temperatures and the more intense occurrence of typhoons. Notably, 2024 was recorded as the warmest year in the planet’s history, while 2022 saw the highest rate of carbon emissions ever recorded. In response to these challenges, Mayor Magalong is preparing the city to be resilient with the launch of the Resiliency Program, which has been effectively implemented since last year.
