SM Art Market launched in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY – Around 400 beautiful paintings created by 99 talented artists from the Cordillera can now be viewed at the launched SM Art Market at the Mall Atrium, SM City Baguio, from July 31 to August 13. The art market was graced by Engr. Marc Jansen Pe, SAVP-Operations; Pasakalye Group of Artists founder Maricar Docyogen; City Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo; Venus Tan, chair-Creative Baguio Council; Ferdie Balanag, Founder & Director Montanossa; Judge Ruth Bawayan, Presiding Judge of Branch 6 MTCC-Baguio; Ed Canta, head of Consular Office-DFA Baguio; RD Juliet Lucas, DTI-CAR and Engr. Doy Tabilog. SM City Baguio’s long-standing commitment to the local art scene, highlighted as one of the successful art events such as Cordillera Hueniverse, Art in Bloom, Pandegka Series, and Impakabsat, reached new heights with the launch of the SM Art Market. The Art Market, was organized by Pasakalye Group of Artists founder Maricar Docyogen and SM City Baguio, to promote talented artists to show their talents in the field of artistic expressions to the public. Expect paintings, photographs, prints, illustrations, digital art, mixed media, and sculptures to be found at the Art Market, all created by talented Filipino artists. This exciting initiative, which will be launched in SM Malls nationwide, strengthens SM Supermalls’ commitment to up-and-coming local artists by giving them a platform to showcase their creative works. and reach a wider audience. The United States government plans to invest in high-quality, high-impact infrastructure via the Luzon Economic Corridor that includes key economic hubs such as Subic Bay, Clark, Manila, and Batangas.    

Honda riders convention goes to Mindanao

Up for grabs were irresistible offers from trade partners, games, raffle prizes, and exciting booth games. Riders who came from different parts of Mindanao were also treated to a massage to soothe their tired body and muscles. Moreover, the event concluded with a grand raffle of two (2) PCX160 ABS models, which is considered one of Honda’s most in-demand scooter models. Much to the audience’s delight, the live performance of Silent Sanctuary filled the auditorium with songs and lighthearted cheer to celebrate this momentous occasion. Chief PNP leads ceremony for PRO8’s Command Center and PTCFOR Satellite Hub

Camp Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – The Police Regional Office 8 marked a significant milestone with the ceremonial blessing of the PRO8 Command Center and the inaugural launch of the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) Secretariat Satellite Hub.  The event was graced by the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP),General Rommel Francisco Marbil, held at the PRO8 Grounds, Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte,on July 30, 2024. The ceremony commenced with a ribbon-cutting and marker unveiling, led by the Chief PNP and assisted by PRO 8 Director BGen.Reynaldo Pawid.  Following this, Rev.Father Maj.Rhey Dollesin,regional pastoral officer, officiated the blessing of the new facilities. In his message, Marbil emphasized the commitment to professionalism and service towards the public. “Let us wear our uniform with pride and honor. As committed police officers, we safeguard communities and uphold the values of integrity and courage. Together, we embody the essence of public service and strive to improve as public servants,” he said. Notably, the establishment of the PTCFOR Secretariat Satellite Hub represents a significant development for firearm regulation in the Philippines.  As the first PTCFOR satellite office in the country, this hub will streamline the processing of applications for the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence for all licensed firearm holders in Region 8 and nearby regions.  This new facility is expected to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of firearm permits, contributing to improved public safety. Simultaneously with the PTCFOR Hub launch, the PRO8 Command Center was officially blessed and inaugurated.  It was constructed under the Trust Receipt Fund CY 2023 with a budget of Php5,127,290.00 through the Office of the Directorate for Comptrollership, Camp Crame Quezon City dated August 15, 2023. This state-of-the-art facility will be the central coordination hub for all regional police operations, enhancing public safety and security, particularly during emergencies and natural disasters. It ensures seamless communication and collaboration among various units and agencies, coordinating swift rescue and relief efforts during emergencies. Moreover, the Command Center includes a War Room designed for strategic planning and operational deployment, featuring a short-throw projector for clear and concise displays.  Additionally, the Central Operations Area, managed by regional tactical and technical personnel, boasts a large LED wall that provides real-time feeds, maps, and data from body cameras, CCTV, and drones. This area also includes a TV monitor dedicated to vehicle tracking, all of which support proactive responses and efficient resource deployment. Pawid, expressed his gratitude to the Chief PNP for the support in establishing the projects, he stated, “The establishment of both the PTCFOR Secretariat Satellite Hub and the PRO8 Command Center marks a new chapter in PRO8’s advancement of public safety and operational efficiency. These new facilities will play a crucial role in enhancing law enforcement and emergency response capabilities across the region.”

Cebu Pacific to resume direct Iloilo Flights to Hong Kong

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading carrier, is set to resume direct flights between Iloilo and Hong Kong in October, offering a faster and more affordable way for travelers from the City of Love to visit one of Asia’s popular shopping and foodie paradise. Starting October 27, CEB will operate flights from Iloilo to Hong Kong four times weekly — every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Hong Kong to Iloilo flights will also operate four times weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. “With the resumption of flights to Hong Kong, CEB will be the only airline to operate international flights from Iloilo. We hope this will also make air travel even more affordable and accessible for a wider range of passengers in the Visayas region,” said Candice Iyog, CEB Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer.   Previously, passengers from Iloilo had to book connecting flights from Manila and spend up to 12 hours traveling to reach Hong Kong with layovers. With CEB’s direct international flights from Iloilo, passengers don’t need to pay more for an additional stop or wait at another airport during their layover. From Iloilo, passengers may now reach Hong Kong in less than three (3) hours and save up to nine (9) hours in travel time. Passengers from Iloilo may also save up to 20% on round-trip air fare compared to booking connecting flights to Hong Kong. To make the route resumption more exciting, from July 26 to 31, 2024, CEB passengers may book flights from Iloilo to Hong Kong for as low as PHP 1 one-way base fare, exclusive of fees and surcharges. The travel period will run from October 27, 2024 to March 29, 2025.   With CEB’s international flights from Iloilo made much more convenient and affordable, more Filipino travelers may now indulge in local delicacies from the Temple Street Night Market or embark on a magical adventure at Hong Kong Disneyland. CEB currently flies to 35 domestic and 25 international destinations spread across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. Passengers may use their existing Travel Funds to book flights and avail of other add-ons. CEB also offers other payment options, including credit or debit cards and e-wallets.  

Public school basic education students in Tiaong, Quezon  impart with free school supplies

By Danny Estacio TIAONG, Quezon – The intermediate and primary learners from Cabay Elementary School,Tiaong East Elementary School, San Juan Elementary School and Claro M. Recto Memorial Central School with total enrolment of 3,358 were recipients of free school supplies given by Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea distributed to them during the school opening on Monday and Tuesday, July 29 and 30. Mayor Mea  personally handed the school supplies on two days distribution which he imparted and his support to the Department of Education (DepEd). Mea was accompanied by Sangguniang Bayan members led by vice mayor Rhoderick Umali, Barangay officials, Parents – Teachers Association officers and his family. He reminded the students to study hard, prayerful and respect their teachers and classmates. He assured that  he will accomplished as soon as soonest possible time the repair of defective classrooms under “zero backlog” program of the 35 schools from 31 barangays before the end of school year 2024-2025. He also added his request of additional 96 classrooms to meet the backlogs to Department of Education secretary Sonny Angara and he is optimistic the positive response in addressing the shortage. The school supplies is purchased by Mea personal fund.

Gov.Yap lauds PBBM on POGO ban

By Arvin F.M.Cabalu/PIO TARLAC Governor Susan Yap lauded the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in banning all POGOs (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation) in the country during his third State Of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa, June 22. “I was elated and relief to hear when the president mentioned the banning of POGO in the country. The best SONA I ever heard so far.,” the governor said when asked during the Department of Migrant Workers press conference at the Diwa ng Tarlac last July 23. The lady governor who has attended 14 previous SONAs both as a Congresswoman and now as Governor, expressed her admiration for the President’s comprehensive agenda and his administration’s achievements over the past year. She noted that President Marcos’ address highlighted crucial initiatives that resonate deeply with the people of Tarlac and the nation as a whole.   “This is my 14th SONA ever since I joined public service and in all of these, this is the first time I took notes [of the] 45 topics that the president discussed. First time. That’s how impressed I was with the president’s SONA. [A] very strong, very decisive and very clear message to all the Filipinos, especially his last statement,” the governor said. Yap noted that the president’s order to ban all Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in the country by the end of the year is “the best decision that a president can make.” “Effective today [July 22], all POGOs are banned. I hereby instruct [Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation] PAGCOR to wind down and cease the operations of POGOs by the end of the year,” the President said in his SONA. “This strikes us in the heart because finally someone heard us. As early as 2020 I’ve had many press releases. In January 2021, we didn’t want the POGO in our province but it did happen. His ending statement last night made me very happy because finally someone took a decisive step to ban POGOs,” Yap said. 𝗣𝗢𝗚𝗢 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘆 In March of this year, Tarlac was at the center of controversy when a POGO Hub in Bamban town was raided by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime. The Mayor of Bamban, Alice Guo, was subjected to a senate hearing and several criminal cases were filed against her. POGO has come to the attention of all Filipinos in the past months as Senate and Congressional hearings have unearthed various illegal activities involving elected officials of the country. Yap, in previous interviews said that as early as January 2021, POGOs were already been banned in Tarlac province by virtue of a Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution.

2024 Global Youth Summit at SM Malls:Highlighting the 17 UN SDGs

  The Global Youth Summit (GYS), held annually by SM Cares and Global Peace Foundation (GPF) is set to return this year in its biggest iteration yet, as it will be hosted in 17 different locations across the country including SM City Baguio on August 3, 2024, which will tackle the topic on SDG 1, No Poverty. Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1) aims to end poverty in all its forms everywhere. This goal is integral to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. GYS will also take place in SM City Pampanga on August 7, to tackle SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities. The GYS is an annual event that provides the youth with an avenue where they can share their ideas and work together to create long-term and sustainable solutions to the most pressing problems and challenges affecting them today. GYS will be inviting experts and key opinion leaders from the private and public sectors and the academe to share their knowledge to inspire the youth into action. The GYS is one of SM Cares’ numerous Programs on Children and Youth, supporting all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
