DA turns over P193-M Malabing Farm-to-Market Road to Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya

By Rachel Magday   KASIBU,Nueva Vizcaya — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Philippine Rural Development Project – Regional Project Coordination Office 02 has officially handed over the Malabing Farm-to-Market Road to the Local Government Unit of Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya. This P193 million infrastructure project is set to transform the region, enhancing the agricultural landscape of the area known as the Citrus Capital of the North. DA Assistant Secretary for Operations and PRDP Deputy Project Director U-Nichols Manalo attended the turnover ceremony on behalf of Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. Highlighting the project’s impact, Manalo stated, “This FMR will enhance accessibility and will foster economic growth, open up new markets to increase the livelihood and income of our beneficiaries – the citrus farmers.” He reiterated the Department’s commitment to supporting farmers and fisherfolk and addressing the challenges within the agriculture sector. Regional Executive Director and Project Director Rose Mary G. Aquino congratulated the officials of Kasibu for completing the project on schedule. She emphasized the importance of leveraging the new infrastructure for enterprise development, urging the community to explore by-products such as Vitamin C. “PRDP is not only about roads but also agribusiness. There should be related enterprises to be put up that will contribute to the economic development of people’s lives,” Aquino noted. Former Governor Ruth R. Padilla, representing Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, reflected on the project’s origins during her tenure. She expressed pride in the collaborative efforts that brought the project to completion , stating, “This project was initiated during my incumbency as Governor with citrus as commodity. But the completion of this is a manifestation of our unified efforts in supporting agriculture in this province.” Governor Gambito shared his thoughts on the project’s significance, saying, “The Malabing Farm-to-Market Road is more than just a pathway; it’s a gateway to prosperity for our farmers. This infrastructure will empower our agricultural community to expand their reach, improve their productivity, and ultimately enrich the agricultural heritage of Nueva Vizcaya. Supporting agriculture is a top priority for my administration, and I am committed to ensuring that our farmers have the resources and infrastructure they need to thrive.” Kasibu Mayor Romeo Tayaban, expressed gratitude to the DA PRDP for funding the project. Of the total cost, the provincial government, under the late Governor Carlos M. Padilla, allocated P10 million as a counterpart, while the municipal government of Kasibu contributed P20 million. Spanning four barangays with a total population of 737 and 165 households, the construction of the road began in March 2022 and was completed in October 2024. The event saw the attendance of various officials, including Regional Technical Director Kay S. Olivas, Vice Mayor Alberto Bumolo Jr., Provincial Agriculturist Absalom Rizal Baysa, and several barangay captains from the area.

Luisita Golf and Country Club relied on veteran Abraham Rosal to rule the Fil Championship and deny bitter rival Manila Southwoods a sweep of the premier flight in the 74th Januarius Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament at the Camp John Hay golf course here Wednesday. Rosal carded 34 points a two-over, Benjie Sumulong carded a 30, Damasus Wong and Ferdie Barbosa had 29 and 28 points, respectively, as Luisita tallied its second straight 121 and outscore the tournament’s most successful team for the title. Veteran Junjun Plana led Southwoods with 31, Raul Minoza and Judd Roy III had similar 28 and Manfred Guanko chipped in 27 for the teams 114 and 443 total. It was a head on from day one for the top 2 squads with Riviera Golf settling for third after a 111 and 431 points. Southwoods marched to the Am Championship after closing out with 85 points and 412 total, nine off, or a two point improvement on its third day, on Srixon SRI, while Greenwater Seniors improved to 395 after an 88 to take the last podium. The Hawaiians had a four round 284, just one off Mountaineers which had a similar 78 and 283. Davao Eagle Masters 2 stayed a hot late charge of Melbourne – Australia but won by four. Davao closed out with 62 and 259, while the Aussies finished with a 70 less the two point penalty for 254 and four shots off another Aussie team, Macquarrie Links Sydney 2 which closed with a 64 and 250. Macquarrie Links was actually tied with Sandigan 82 2 but the former had a fifth man who scored seven while the latter had a four man team in the last round. CaliPhil Hawaii closed out with a 73 and a 236 for an eight point victory in Seniors Fil E. The team started just a point off but outscored the latter 73-66 in the last round. Korea Morning Calm settled for third after scoring 64 and 226. Sandigan Golfers 2 won Am E by 10 points over Fil-Am Oahu Golf 2. Sandigan had a last round 52 and 210, while Sandigan made 55 for 200. Green Canyon fell to third place after a 44 and 196 total. Team Foretee won the Regular Fil F title with 285 (65), 17 off City of Pines, which nipped TIEZA – Club Intramuros 2 which was leading the locals by a point after the third round. PRO 8 seize ₱428-M illegal drugs in November

CAMP KANGLEON, PALO, LEYTE – The Police Regional Office 8 achieved significant progress in its anti-illegal drugs campaign in conducting 79 operations that led to the arrest of 91 individuals, including nine listed personalities, and the filing of 183 drug-related cases in November 2024 Throughout November, operations against illegal drugs yielded significant seizures, including 62,961.92 grams of shabu, 2,292.41 grams of marijuana, and 6.37 grams of cocaine, with an estimated total value of ₱428,141,826.19. Among the units, the Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office (SLPPO) recorded the largest confiscation, seizing 60,420.55 grams of shabu worth ₱410,859,720.55. Meanwhile, the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO) conducted 31 operations, which led to the confiscation of 168.43 grams of shabu valued at ₱1,145,332.16. Significant contributions were also made by the Tacloban City Police Office, Biliran PPO, Samar PPO, and other units, reflecting the unified effort of law enforcement in combating illegal drugs. PRO 8 Regional Director, Brig.Gen. Jay Cumigad, commended the police force, stating, “These accomplishments demonstrate our officers’ commitment to eradicating illegal drugs and protecting our communities. The significant seizures and arrests highlight our determination to dismantle drug syndicates. We urge the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to help create a safer, drug-free environment.” The Philippine National Police remains committed to its anti-illegal drugs campaign, assuring the public of continued, intelligence-driven operations to combat drug syndicates and maintain peace and order across the region.

With the theme “Likha”, this exhibition not only showcases her talent but also supports charitable causes, including initiatives for children with autism and the underprivileged. In the first batch of the fashion show, Salonga was joined by Noble Queen International Patricia Javier; Actress Gladys Reyes-Sommereux; Cielo Ortega-Reboredo, Okada vice president for sales and marketing and Krishan Pauline Allere, Miss Pearl of the Orient. The Aura Gala Night was created by the brilliant creative designers of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP) and sponsored by the Aura Group of Companies head by Bennilyn Amigo-Molina. “It is an honor to be among the renowned fashion models and I am very grateful to the organizer and designer for giving me the opportunity as an artist to participate in the fashion show. Being a charitable artist is my advocacy, so this fashion show is timely and also a creative event,” stated Salonga. Salonga, is known as the exclusive creator behind Myseterpiece Art. Her artistic journey, which began in 2010, has evolved from a simple hobby to a vibrant and impactful career, showcasing her talent locally and internationally. Over the past decade, Myse has created over 200 unique paintings, captivating audiences with her diverse and evocative works, such as modern abstract, figurative art, landscape, seascape, and surrealism. Myse’s artworks have garnered attention in prestigious venues around the world. Notably, his pieces have been featured in iconic locations such as 1560 Broadway in Times Square, New York, and eight billboards in London Waterloo Station. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, including his solo showcase titled “A Masterpiece of MYSEterpiece Art” in Baguio City, as well as international exhibitions throughout Asia and Europe. In 2024, Myse’s artistic contributions reached new heights with three significant exhibitions in France. She exhibited his work at the “Rendezvous Aux Jardins” at Le Château d’Hauterives à Argentré, participated in the “Salon International d’Art Contemporain” at the renowned Carrousel Du Louvre in Paris, and exhibited at the “Business Art Fair 16th Edition” at Espace Nesle, Paris. Nueva Vizcaya to receive P7.5 Million from DOLE to boost coffee industry

The province of Nueva Vizcaya, under the leadership Governor Atty.Jose “Jing” V. Gambito, is set to receive a P7.5 million fund from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). This funding marks a significant collaboration between the provincial government and DOLE, aimed at enhancing the growing coffee industry in the province. DOLE Provincial Director Elizabeth U. Martinez, revealed that the allocated funds will be used to support and further develop the coffee industry in Nueva Vizcaya. The beneficiaries of this initiative include five Coffee Farmers Associations from the municipalities of Ambaguio, Sta. Fe, Kasibu, Kayapa, and Dupax del Sur. According to Martinez, the funds will be dedicated to purchasing essential equipment for the coffee farmers, enabling them to improve their production capabilities. In addition to supporting the farmers, DOLE will also allocate funds to 13 coffee shops across the province. Each coffee shop will receive between P250,000 to P300,000, intended for training and equipment to enhance the quality of their coffee offerings. Governor Gambito expressed his gratitude towards DOLE for their support, stating, “We are thankful for this funding from the Department of Labor and Employment. This support is a vital step towards the growth of our coffee industry. We cannot solely rely on the provincial government’s fund, as it is limited and insufficient to implement all our programs effectively. Therefore, we must partner with national agencies to secure additional funding, ensuring the continuous development and prosperity of our province.” The provincial government and DOLE anticipate that the funds will be downloaded to the province within the month, as stated by Martinez. This initiative is expected to significantly boost the local coffee industry, providing both farmers and coffee shop owners with the necessary resources to thrive and compete in the market. 130 kaso ng pertussis naitala sa Albay

By LJLorejo, Albay- PIO   LEGAZPI CITY – Mahigit 130 kaso na ng pertussis ang naitala ng Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development Bicol (DOH CHD) sa lalawigan ng Albay. Sa record mula sa Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response Database Morbidity Week 47, mayroon ng 132 kaso ng pertussis ang naitala sa lalawigan simula nitong Enero taong kasalukuyan. Dumagdag ito ng 30 na kaso ngayong Nobyembre mula sa 102 cases na nairehistro noong buwan ng Oktubre. Paglilinaw naman ng PHO, na nasa 18 lamang sa mga ito ang laboratory-confirmed para sa mga buwan mula Enero hanggang Nobyembre. Dahil sa patuloy na naitatalang kaso ng nasabing sakit, mahigpit na iminumungkahi ng DOH-CHD na agarang magpa konsulta sa pinaka malapit na health center sakaling sabay-sabay na maramdaman ang mga sintomas gaya ng sipon, lagnat at ubo na lumala na sa loob ng isa hanggang dalawang linggo. Ang pertussis o “whooping cough” ay isang nakakahawang sakit na nakamamatay at karaniwang tumatama sa mga bata partikular na sa mga sanggol na mas bata pa sa anim na buwang gulang.    

COMELEC demonstrates Automated Counting Machine to BCPO

Atty. John Paul A. Martin, representative from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), conducted a demonstration of the Automated Counting Machine to be used in the May 2025 Elections. The event took at the BCPO Kapanalig Hall, which was simultaneously conducted in various provinces and cities across the nation. on December 2, 2024, In his address, Col. Ruel Tagel, city director, emphasized the critical role of automation in ensuring greater efficiency, accuracy, and transparency during the elections. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with the COMELEC, the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the media to guarantee the safe and orderly conduct of the elections. Also present during the activity are Atty. Julius Torres, COMELEC- CAR Regional Election Director, Dr. Soraya T. Facunlo of DepEd Baguio and Dir. Millicent B. Cariño of DILG, who affirmed their commitment to working together for a successful 2025 election.
