100 solo parents receive gift packs on 24th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day in Baguio

  By Rose Frejane Cruz   BAGUIO CITY — One hundred solo parents received gift packs during the celebration of the 24th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day held at the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Park, Botanical Garden, Baguio City, on June 14. The celebration was attended by Consul and Head of Post Ren Faquiang, Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Laoag City, together with Baguio Filipino-Chinese Organizations led by Peter Ng and city officials. The selected solo parents are from the City Social Welfare and Development Office led by Liza Bulayungan. “This friendship will not end despite the issues between the two countries, because we who live here in the Philippines, were born and do business here have Filipino blood to love our place and help our countrymen,” Ng said. According to Consul Faquiang, “I am very pleased with the relationship between Chinese and Filipinos in Baguio City, because I always see the respect for each other. The upcoming celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Philippines-China friendship proves that the length of the relationship is also the length of unity, cooperation towards the economy of the two countries.” The simple celebration was conducted by releasing doves and balloons as a symbol of friendship between the two countries and the highlight was the distribution of 100 grocery packs to single-parent beneficiaries. In a message by Mayor Benjamin Magalong delivered by his Executive Assistant Doy Tabilog, he highly praised the Fil-Chi community in the city for their contributions from community outreach programs, such as the construction of additional school buildings in schools and the delivery of aid during disasters. “In addition, they are also our partners in tourism, such as the Chinoy mural they created that serves as an attraction for our visitors and this Fil-Chinese Friendship Park, which they themselves are developing and beautifying, which is one of the places visited by tourists. Our relationship with each other does not end here, but will continue for the development of our city. Thank you very much,” Magalong added in his message.        

Police recovers IED, ammunitions, subversive documents in Zambales mountain

Veloria   IBA, Zambales- Police operatives here recovered cache of improvised explosive devices, assorted ammunitions, and subversive documents buried in the mountainous community of Poon-Bato, in the town of Botolan. Botolan Municipal Police Station Chief P/Major Janine Piga, said the joint operatives from Zambales Police Intelligence and Surveillance Division,1st Police Mobile Force Command, Zambales SWAT, conducted ISO operation near Mt. Piera, Sitio Dingin, Old Poon Bato, Botolan, Zambales. The said operation resulted in the recovery of one piece improvised explosive device (IED), 4 pieces rifle grenades, three hand grenades, blasting caps, detonating cords, sizeable number of ammunitions for various calibers, magazines, CPPP/NPA/NDF flag and campaign documents, and other subversive paraphernalia. The report said that at about 3:00 AM, joint police operatives conducted operations in Mt. Piera, along with former member of CPP/NPA/NDF who informed the police about the location where explosive, ammunitions, and other materials were buried by terrorist group. Prior to the operation, on May 24, 2025, Cabangan MPS reported about the sighting of armed group in their area of responsibility; on June 6 and June 7, reports of alleged movement of armed men in separate areas in nearby Botolan town, as reported by 1st Police Mobile Force Company. Recovered subversive materials were brought to Botolan MPS for documentation.        

Magalong nanawagan na repasuhin ang speed limit ordinance

BAGUIO CITY — Hiniling ni Mayor Benjamin Magalong ang pagrepaso at pag-amyenda sa speed limit ordinance ng lungsod upang maisaayos ang mga paghihigpit sa bilis at gamitin kung ano ang nararapat sa isang partikular na lugar. “We have to be discerning regarding our speed limits. We need to amend our ordinance kasi may speed limits na hindi advisable,” paliwanag ni Magalong sa mga kinatawan ng  city’s traffic and transportation team. Sinabi ni Magalong na tinanggihan ng aktwal na karanasan ang pagiging angkop ng mga speed limit na ibinigay sa ilalim ng Ordinance No. 18, series of 2019 o ang Speed ​​Limit Ordinance ng Baguio City. “We tried running at 30 kph along South Drive and it is not advisable. It should be around 40 kph. Same is true with Loakan Road, Kennon Road and Marcos Highway. We need to look at other roads where 20-30 kph limit is not appropriate,” dagdag pa ni Magalong. Ang Traffic and Transportation Management Division ng City Engineering Office, Traffic Enforcement Unit ng Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) at ang City Legal Office ay gagawa ng draft ng panukalang amendment para isumite sa city council. Ang mahigpit na pagpataw ng speed limit ordinance ay isa sa mga ginawang hakbang para mapigilan ang pagdami ng vehicular traffic incidents sa lungsod. Ang karamihang aksidente sa kalsada ay pangunahing naiugnay sa human error. Gaya ng nakasaad sa Ordinansa Blg.18-2019, ang maximum na bilis na 20 kph ay mahigpit na ipinapataw sa loob ng Central Business District at iba pang mga pangunahing kalsada. Ang maximum na bilis na 30 kph ay nalalapat sa lahat ng panloob na kalsada. Upang matiyak ang bisa ng ordinansang ito, nagplano ang lungsod na bumili ng mga speed monitoring device, kabilang ang mga speed gun at radar sensor, upang mapahusay ang regulasyon at pagtuklas ng mga bilis ng sasakyan sa buong lungsod. Ayon kay BCPO City Director PCol Ruel Tagel na nakabili na ng breath analyzer at ginagamit na ngayon sa field testing. Bibili ng mga karagdagang breath analyzer sa mga darating na araw. Ang pagbili ng mga speed gun ay isinasagawa din na may mga pagsasaalang-alang para sa kalidad at pagiging epektibo sa gastos. Naglagay din ang CEO ng mga signage sa mga kalsada kabilang ang Bokawkan, Magsaysay, Loakan at Legarda para palakasin ang pagpapatupad ng ordinansa sa pakikipagtulungan ng Deparment of Public Works and Highways. Bilang karagdagan, ang mga signage na “Slow Down” ay inilagay malapit sa mga paaralan bilang suporta sa parehong ordinansa.        

MSD, Heroes to host Founders Run

MSD, Heroes to host Founders Run The Media for Sports Development and e-Pub Heroes is ready to host the Founders Run on June 29. The 12 Kilometer, 6 K, 3K and 1.5K runs will utilize the often-used route of Kisad, Military Cut Off and Loakan road and will start and ends at the Baguio athletic bowl, said race director Stephen Felices of Team Malaya. An event with The Mountain Men Creations Co and Way Nasdi, entry fee for the shortest route or Canicross is PhP850, PhP1,050 for the 3K, PhO1,150 for the 6K and PhP1,450 for the 12K. Registrants are entitled to a raced singlet, bib and finisher’s medal. Registration is now open, added Felices and payment is through G-Cash using Smart number 0962 736 2115. The run was supposed to be staged as early as December of last year but delays due to other commitments of the organizers have pushed the event to its final date late next month, said Pigeon Lobien of the organizing MSD and Heroes. The event is a fund raiser for the continuation of the Heroes mural project at the Baguio athletic bowl, particularly the Baguio Running Wall component where past and present athletics greats are painted there now. It also hopes to support the local inter-collegiate games, Baguio Benguet Educational Athletic League. MSD is the organizer of the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup Men’s Basketball League and Benguet Women’s Volleyball League. It is composed of sports journalists covering local sporting events including the BBEAL.

The 2nd Largest Flag in the World measuring 100 meters by 200 meters, weighing 3.8 tons and was made for almost six months by the Halelujah Prophetic Global Foundation was unfurling by more or less 500 people at Athletic Bowl, during the celebration of 110th Independence Day in Baguio City on June 12, 2008.The largest Philippine flag is next to Israel. 

Kalinga Pasalubong Center soon to fully operational

  Various stakeholders in Kalinga have started taking action to address concerns regarding the full operation of the Kalinga Pasalubong Center (KPC) in Talaca. Plans are underway to electrify the building to make it fully operational. The Chamber of Tabuk City–Kalinga Producers, Inc. (CTCKAPI) reported on the center’s current operations and proposed an action plan for improvements, including better facilities and enhanced marketing of local products. A site validation was conducted to finalize development plans. Kalinga Tourism encourages all travelers passing through Talaca to stop by the center to enjoy the view, drink local coffee, and support Kalinga-made products.

Gov. Ongchuan takes oath as Representative of Northern Samar’s Second District

Following his sweeping victory in the May 12, 2025 elections, newly elected Congressman, Governor Edwin Ongchuan formally embraced his new mission by taking his oath this afternoon of June 11, 2025 in San Roque, Northern Samar. He took his oath as the new Representative of the 2nd District of Northern Samar before San Roque Mayor Maria Ana Abalon, joined by his family and greatest supporters – wife, Ms. Bles Ongchuan and son, Councilor-elect Emil Ongchuan II. Partymates and strongest allies in Provincial Government development initiatives- Vice Governor Clarence Dato and Board Member Don Abalon, were also present. Supporters from the municipality of San Roque also came to witness his oath-taking, to include Sangguniang Bayan members, barangay captains, and department heads of LGU San Roque. Governor Ongchuan personally chose San Roque to take his oath, the town delivering the greatest win through an overwhelming 93% votes based on the COC and election returns, similar to his strong showing in the 2016 elections. Northern Samar marked its most significant milestones during the past 2 terms of Governor Ongchuan where he served as the province’s chief executive from 2019-2025. Before he was elected Governor, he was Northern Samar’s Second District Congressman from 2016-2019. He will formally assume his new post on June 30, 2025, along with other elected officials. Gov. Guico tiniyak na makompleto ang mga grassroots project sa ikalawang termino

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Magdadala ng mas mahahalagang proyekto si Gobernador Ramon V. Guico III para mapabuti ang buhay ng mga Pangasinense sa kanyang pagpasok sa ikalawang termino. Nangako si Guico sa kanyang proklamasyon na magbibigay ng mahahalagang proyekto at programa sa lahat ng mga barangay sa Pangasinan upang mapabuti ang buhay ng kanyang mga nasasakupan lalo na ang mga mahihirap. Sinabi ni Gob. Guico na ang mga mahahalagang proyekto ay kinabibilangan ng pagkumpleto ng Pangasinan Link Expressway (PLEX) at iba’t ibang mga proyektong pang-imprastraktura kabilang ang modernisasyon ng lahat ng 14 na ospital ng gobyerno, pagtatatag ng Pangasinan Polytechnic College (PPC), muling pagpapaunlad ng Capitol Complex na lahat ay sinimulan niya nang maupo siya noong Hulyo ng 2022. Bibigyan din aniya niya ng kinakailangang suporta ang mga katutubo tulad ng pagkakaloob ng farm-to-market roads, livelihood at skills training para sa mga barangay, pagtatayo ng mga multi-purpose na gusali, kung ilan. Kamakailan, ang pamahalaang panlalawigan sa pamamagitan ng Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) ay nagkonkreto ng mga farm-to-market road sa Malasiqui partikular sa mga barangay Talospatang, Lasip, Alliaga, Malimpec, Butao at Nansangaan. “Malaking tulomg kasi dati-rati, makitid at malubak itong daan namin, ngayon maayos na,” pahayag ni Lasip Punong Barangay Francisco Barboza. Bukod dito, si Gov. Guico ay nag-green lit sa pagsasagawa ng Alagang GUICOmmunity Program, isang medical outreach program na idinisenyo upang dalhin ang mga serbisyo sa pangangalagang pangkalusugan sa katutubo. Kabilang sa mga nakinabang kamakailan ay ang mga residente ng Barangay Doyong sa Calasiao. Gayundin, ang mga multi-purpose na gusali ay itinayo sa mga nayon ng Bical Norte, Pantol, Darawey, San Gabriel 1st, Tamaro, at Manambong Parte lahat sa Bayambang. “Ang daming nasiyahan nang matapos ang construction ng mga multi-purpose building kasi malaki ang maitutulong nito kapag may mga activity kamim” pahayag ni San Gabriel 1st Punong Barangay Eligio Velorio said: Bukod sa imprastraktura, pangangalagang pangkalusugan at serbisyong panlipunan, inatasan ni Gov. Guico ang paglalagay ng mga solar street lights upang matiyak ang isang mas ligtas, kaaya-ayang kapaligiran para sa mga tao. Kamakailan, ang lahat ng mga tanggapan ng pamahalaang panlalawigan ay inatasan na tukuyin at pagtibayin ang isang barangay sa lalawigan bilang tatanggap para sa kanilang mga outreach projects.

Plaza Sports Complex covered court in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur came alive with faith, music and inspiration during the spiritual gathering, Fully Awake: Pilgrims of Hope led by renowned Catholic lay preacher Bo Sanchez. Hundreds of attendees gathered, filling the venue with expectant hearts and vibrant energy. The event served as both a spiritual revival and a celebration of hope, anchored in the message of awakening to God’s purpose in today’s challenging world. Sanchez, known for his dynamic preaching and practical wisdom, delivered heartfelt talks that encouraged the crowd to live fully in God’s grace. “To be fully awake is to be fully alive in your purpose, in your faith, and in your love,” Sanchez declared, drawing loud applause and deep reflection. The event featured uplifting praise and worship, personal testimonies and moments of communal prayer, making it a deeply moving experience. Pilgrims of Hope reminded everyone that in times of uncertainty, faith remains the strongest anchor. As participants left the venue, many expressed renewed courage and clarity. One attendee shared, “Today, I woke up not just physically, but spiritually.
