Release of sports incentives to athletes pushed

BAGUIO City officials recently requested the Sports and Recreation Division of the City Administrator’s Office to fastrack the processing and release of sports incentives to the Baguio ‘City athletes and coaches who participated in the different local and international sports tournaments, such as the Batang Pinoy Games and the Philippine National Games. Under Resolution No. 749, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the timely release of sports incentives is essential to acknowledge and reward the hard work and the success of the said athletes and coaches, and to encourage continued excellence in sports among them. The city government recognizes the dedication and achievements of its athletes and coaches who have represented the city in events, such as the Philippine Youth Games also known as Batang Pinoy, and the Philippine National Games. The council claimed that the Batang Pinoy, an initiative of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), has played a significant role in identifying and nurturing youth athletes. Further, targeting children under age 15, the event demonstrates the nation’s dedication and commitment in producing the next generation of athletes. On the other hand, the Philippine National Games is a multi-sports competition run by the PSC to determine the potential makeup of the national team that will compete internationally in events like the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and the Olympic Games. Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the Sports and Recreation Division under the City Administrator’s Office for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action.   The AEBC Sports and Wellness Day continued with a calming and rejuvenating Tai Chi session at the Rose Garden, Burnham Park. This peaceful event offered participants the chance to slow down and experience the gentle flow of Tai Chi movements, guided by skilled instructors who brought peace and focus to the morning. The serene atmosphere of the Rose Garden provided the perfect backdrop for a session that emphasized mindfulness, balance, and inner tranquility. Whether seasoned practitioners or first-time participants, everyone embraced the soothing rhythm of Tai Chi, making the experience truly special. Baguio Tourism Council Chairman Gladys Vergara, a strong supporter of promoting wellness and mindfulness within the community, expressed her appreciation for the event’s success. She said, “In our fast-paced world, it is vital to take moments to pause, reflect, and reconnect with ourselves: Tai Chi offers a gentle yet powerful way to find balance and serenity, and I’m grateful o see so many join us today in embracing this practice. Events like this encourage us to incorporate mindfulness into our daily lives,helping us build a healthier,more peaceful Baguio.” The Tai Chi session, part of the city’s Sports Day Extravaganza, highlighted the importance of mental and physical well-being. Eastridge denies MSW 10th straight Fil Champ title

First round leader Januarius Private Equity 1 completed the podium with 512 after a 108. It was a reverse in the Am Championship where Southwoods weathered a strong Eastridge 2 rally to still win the crown by seven shots. Thanks to Zeus Sarfa’s 39 point production, the 35 of Zach Villaroman, and the pair of 34s from Rafa Leonio and Patrick Tambalque, Southwoods made 142 for a four day total of 525. Eastridge had the day best of a seven under or 151 points when three of its men scored in under par. Chris John Remata led with a four under for 40, Richard Joson had a three under for 39 and Edison Tabalin with a two under for 38 in the mammoth effort that, however, fell short. Gary Sales counted with a two over for 34 points. First round leader Batangas Barako closed with a 119 and an aggregate 467. Former Southwoods player Luigi Paolo Wong led CJH to the Fil A title after closing out with 109 and 472 total for a 23 point victory over round two leader Forest Hills 1. Wong closed out with an even par for 36 and with rounds of 39, 38 and 33, the La Trinidad born and raised golfer finished with a two under for 146 and the individual group 2 title. Counting for his team are Melchor Carlos Rabanes II (27), Emilio Antonio Curran (24) and Leonard Corpuz (22). Forest Hills closed out with 88 for 449, just a point off Eastridge – Primehomes which closed out with a 103 and 448. Richard delos Santos hot a one under for 37, while Theody Pascual added an even par for 36 to power Time Cargo Logistics 2 to a flight best 131 and 442 to move past day three leader Forest Hills 2, which closed out with 120 and 437 aggregate. Team Master is a distant third with 416 after a closing round of 117. Pearl Kai Golf Club had a closing round of 78 and a four-day total of 389 to win Fil B title. Moto I is 15 shots down with 374 after an 80 for second, while Green Water Golfers of California complete the podium with 373, just a point off erstwhile third ranked Cool Jocks which closed out with an 80. CJH 2 made it two for two by winning the Am B crown by a measly four points. CJH 2 closed out with 109 and 393, just four off Team M which had a closing round of 115, thanks to the round four brilliance of Matt Manotoc, who drilled 40 points or a four under 65. Team Surigao 2 took third honors with 360 after a 101. Emiliano Mendoza and Cris Garbo scored 23 points a piece and lead MCG/Edmari to 86 and 397 total to take a nine point victorying Fil-C. The last day total was enough to lift their team which was tied with FLCA Golfers 1 after the third round. FLCA Golfers 1 had a closing round of 77 for 388, while JAC Liner – 13th Tee came in fourth after an 85 for 344. In Am-C, like in Fil-C, the top two teams were tied after the third round, but Green Jacket scored 103 in the final round, outscored Isabela Leaders by six to take a six point victory. Isabela had a closing round of 96 for its 330 points, 15 points off third placer Red Core Solutions. In Fil D, Team Phoas of Uragun closed with a 70 for 316 and a seven shot victory over BIBAK Golfers which shot a 69 and 309. BIBAK Golfers actually leap frogged two higher squads for its final placement – Mixed Nuts, which finished third, shot 59 and 308 and Integral which had 61 and 304. Palm Grove coasted to the Am E crown by closing out with 94 and 337 for a seven point victory over FLCA Golfers 2 which had a 92 and 330 total. Fil-Am League of Golfers Chicago 2 took third place with 320 after a 76. In Fil E, Jon Fokomota scored 20 points to lead to 73 for a 312 points total for a 10 shot victory for Fil-Golfers of Hawaii 1. Uraguns 1 had 71 for 302 to seal a bridesmaid finish, while a 67 for Isabela Builders was enough for the last podium finish. In Am E, Jose Gerard Asuncion’s 25 for the team’s 80 points was enough for Royal Northwoods 2 to take the title. The team had 282 points, six shots off Fil-Golfers of Hawaii 2, which had a closing round of 82 for 276. Ultraflite 2 had 77 for 241 and third place. In individual play, top honors went to Forest Hills 2’s Jose Carlos Taruc as winner of group 2 with 115 points; Dennis Nicomedes also of Forest Hills 2 as group 3 winner with 119 points; group 4 winner is Junel Soriano of Integral; Douglas Puckett in group 5 with 112; while Donald Daganos of FLCA Golfers 2, Irwin Fernando of Razcals – Gold, Migs Enrile of PHOAS of Uragun and Ferdinand delos Santos of Fil Golfers of Hawaii 2 are group 6, 7, 8 and 9 winners, in that order. Eastridge takes six shot lead in Fil Champ, MSW takes commanding lead in Am Champ

It could be a repeat of the Seniors as Manila Southwoods appears to be heading to a Fil Championship defeat but remains the ruler of the Am Champion. This as the Eastridge –Primehomes I yesterday held off Southwoods and even increased its lead by a point as the two gear up for a showdown in the last and final round in the Fil Championship of the 74th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament at the Baguio Country Club golf course. Jhondie Quibol maintained his hot putter as he scored a two over 63 for 34 points to lead Eastridge which assembled a flight best 125. Contributing to the team’s efforts are Ronel Taga-an with 33, Roland Bregente with 30 and a 28 from Jefren Lumbo as Eastridge is on the verge of collecting its very first title. The team has 422 points and now stares at a six point lead from five over defending champion Manila Southwoods. The Carmona, Cavite parbusters assembled 124 points on the 34 of Coby Rolida, the 32 of Enrique Dimayuga and the pair of 29s of Miko Granada and Jet Hernandez.The final day will be a showdown between the two golf teams with Januarius Private Equity I fading after a 115 and 404 points total, 12 down the second placed team. Over at Camp John Hay, Southwoods 2 has virtually clinched the Am Championship title when it carded a cumulative six under or 150 points. Zeus Sara led the Southwoods charge with a five under 64 for 41 points, Patrick Tambalque chipped in a two under for 38, an even par for 36 points by Zach Villaroman and a one over for 35 markers by TJ Padilla. Southwoods now has 383 points and its one-point deficit has turned into a 23 point advantage over new second placer Eastridge. Eastridge – Primehomes 2 assembled 138 points on the one under for 37 of Chris John Remata, the even par for 36 of Gary Sales and the 33 and 32 of Edison Tabalen and Richard Joson, respectively. Eastridge’s third day performances catapulted the team to second spot with 367, pushing down two day leader Baangas Barakos to third after a 114 for its three day total of 348. Gavino Junio submitted a 25 and lead Integral to a 68 to remain at the top of Fil D with a round remaining. Integral has a three day total of 243, just three off BIBAK Igolfers which assembled a similar 68. Just a point down is Pugo Adventures which carded a 65 to move from second the third spot at 239. Yokosan is another five shot down after a 64. The Baguio Blue Bloods is one round short of claiming the Am D title with its 26 point lead over Cool Jocks 2 and another one on Eton Golf 2. Noel Lamsis was the team’s best performer with a 30 for the team’s 96 points and 238 total. Cool Jocks 2 foundered with an 85 and barely hung on to second spot with a 212 total and just one off Eton GC 2 which fired a 92 and 211 total. (Fil Am Golf Media Release)

CJH Teams in command of A flights

Camp John Hay I reassumed command of Fil A in the 74th Januarius Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament as their games resumed at the Baguio Country Club Thursday. Luigi Paolo Wong shot a flight best three over for 33 points to lead CJH I to a third day total of 108 and power the co-host team to 365 points with a round left. With a pair of 26 points from Melchor Carlos Rabanes II and Emilio Curran and a 23 from Leonard Corpuz, CJH I is now two off overnight leader Forest Hill II which wilted under an unforgiving BCC course where the latter came up with 95 points. The squad had 27 from Dan Braganza, 24 from Joshua Buenaventura ad a pair of 22 from Pierre Ticzon and Adrian Romero that allowed CJH I to overhaul an 11 point deficit going to the final round. Eastridge Primehomes is a distant third at 345 after an 88. Forest Hills 2, meanwhile, wrested the lead from Time Cargo Logistics 2 after a 121 at the longer Camp John Hay course. With an even par for 36 points from Jose Carlos Taruc, a 33 from Jose Nicomedes, 31 from Cherub Alcantara and 21 from John See, Forest Hills 2 had the best round in the flight as they submitted a total of 317, just two off Time Cargo which was leading by one after round two. Time Cargo had 118 for a 315 total and 16 off Team Master (108 = 299) CJH 2, meanwhile, shot a flight best 116 and a 284 total to increase its six points lead to 10 over Team M. Geroge Punasen led the charge of the locals with 33, John Marasigan submitted a 31, Bayani Tecson with 28 and Monet Garcia chipped in a 24. Team M, on the other hand, carded a 117 for 274, and 15 off Team Surigao II, which shot 94 for 259. Quibol, Eastridge in record day two explosion

Jhondie Quibol exploded for a nine under 60 for 45 points and lead Eastridge – Primehomes I to a 158 tally and seize the lead with 297 in the Fil Championship flight of the 74th Januarius Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament at the Camp John Hay golf course Wednesday. Quibol was almost perfect as he drained a single eagle on the par 4 ninth then had eight birdies that was marred by a bogey on the par 4 seventh. Quibol birdied the first hole, but got derailed in the seventh before closing with a birdie-eagle. He then had a birdie binge in the 10th to 12th holes, slowed down in par 3 13th then had two more birdies before settling with a par and closed it with a birdie in the par 3 18th. And his team mates also made good progress as Ronel Tagaan closed with a three under for 39 points, while Rolando Bregente and Bobe Salahog counted with a one under 68 for 37 points. Eastridge zoomed to the top spot with a two day total of 297 as they take a break today, December 12, before they shift to the shorter but more unforgiving Baguio Country Club links on Friday. Nine time defending champion Manila Southwoods was equally impressive after a nine under total for 153 for a 292 tally, five shots off the new leader. Joaquin Hernandez led the charge of the Carmona, Cavite team with a four under 65 for 40 points, Shinichi Suzuki had a three under 66 for 39. Enrique Dimayuga and Miko Granada added a two under 67 for 38 and an even par 69 for 36. Day one top notcher Ian Mathay did not count with a 30. Day one leader Januarius Private Equity 1 slowed down with 140, a four over, for a 289 tally, just three off Southwoods and eight down the new leader. Terence Macatangay led with a one under 68 for 37 points, Ayon Hernandez had an even par for 36, while Masachi Otake had 34 and a 33 for Kirby Lachica. SPES I is 23 down Januarius after a 132, while Time Cargo Logistics had a 118 for a 235 to complete the cast in the premiere Fil Championship. Southwoods, meanwhile, was staring at a nine point deficit at the start of the second day, but a 120 point production saw the Cavite players start round three trailing by just a point. Charles Serdena led Batangas Barako with 30 points for the team’s 112 day two output for a 234. Zeus Sara led the charge for Southwoods with a one over 62 for 35 points to pace the team. Zach Villaroman, Santino Laurel and TJ Padilla counted for the team with 30, 29 and 26 points output, in that order, to count. Just four down Southwoods is Eastridge – Primehomes 2 which shut 115 for a 229 tally. Januarius Truespec had a 92 for 193, while Valley Golf is dead last with 175 after a 93. Meanwhile, MCG/Edmari Wednesday holds a six-point advantage in Fil C halfway into the tournament. Emiliano Mendoza fired 30 points to lead MCG/Edmari on the second day of play which wound up with 110 for a two day 223. Cris Gabo added 28, while Marc Cruz and Teddy Quizon churned in an identical 26 to count for the team. Six back is FLCA Golfers 1 which produced 111 on the 32 of Jary Tonido, 31 of Herbert Donglasan, and a 25 and 23 from Napoleon Rosito and Aldrin Osha. FLCA has a two day total of 217. Some 17 shots down is Tiyo Paeng Davao which mustered 115 points for 200. It is tougher in Am C where Isabela Leaders caught up with Red Core Solutions and are tied to the lead halfway into the tournament. Benedict Calderon shot 25, Manny Solis had a 20, while Faustino Dy and Jun Pascua chipped in an 18 and 17, respectively to count for the team’s 80 and 144. Red Core Solutions on the other hand had a pair of 21s from David Roach and Michael Miguel, and 18 and a 16 from Juan Paolo Santiago and Christian Santiago, respectively, for a 76 and 144 total to remain in the lead. Two teams are tied for third with day one leader X1R Smartscore 2 which shot 72 and a 141 total. Green Jacket Golf Club scored 77 for the same two-day total. Just two off is Razcals Gold with 139 after a 73. Pierre Ticzon shot a two under 67 for 38 points to lead Forest Hills 1 to 139 for a two day sum of 266 and now a nine point leader. Backing Ticzon is Rocky Kristian Co who shot an even par or 36 points, while Don Breganza and Adrian Romero counted for the team with their 35 and 30, respectively. Ralph Ryan Batican had a one under 68 for 37 points and lead Eastridge Primehomes to 130 and 257 total to remain at second spot. CJH GC1, meanwhile slipped to third after a dominant first day when it submitted 125 for a 255 total. Luigi Paolo Wong followed up his three under for 39 with a two under for 38 to lead the team as he also made a strong case for the individual plum. Richard delos Santos, meanwhile, shot a 30 and lead Time Cargo Logistics 2 to 104 and a two day gross of 197 and take a one shot lead on Forest Hills 2. A furious start led by a four under 65 for 40 points put Januarius Private Equity I 10 shots off two teams including 10-peat seeking Manila Southwoods at the Camp John Hay golf course in the 74th Januarius Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament. Ian Mathay had a pick up on the third hole but he submitted three on the front nine then four more in the back nine. With a bogey on the par 4 fifth, Mathay had the tournament best 40 points for Januarius’ 149 tally, that is five under. An eagle-aided one under 68 put Kirby Lachica at 37, which was matched by Ayon Sanchez, while Masaichi Otake chipped in 35 points. Terence Macatangay added a 32that did not count. Miko Granada fired an opening round one under 68 for 37 to lead the 10-peat seeking Southwoods, while Enrique Dimayuga had an even par for 36, while Shinichi Suzuki and Joaquin Hernandez added a 34 and 32 to count for the most successful team in the Fil-Am. Eastridge – Pinehomes 1 matched the Carmona, Cavite based team’s wof 139 on the 37 of Ronel Taga-an, 35 of Jhondie Quibol and the 34 and 33 outputs of Jefren Lumbo and Bobe Salahog. SPES Team 1 is another five shots down with 134 and who was led by Jacob Jata who fired a two under 67 for 38 points. Over at the Baguio Country Club, Erik Escalona fired a two over for 34 points to lead Batangas Barakosto 122 for an eight shot lead. Counting for the team are: Charles Serdenia (31), Gerald Katigbak (29) and Eric Gozo (28). Edison Tabales had 33 points to lead Eastridge – Pinehomes 2 to 114 and second spot. Gary Sales, Chris John Remata and Richard Joson scored 28, 27 and 26 points, in that order, to count for Eastridge 2. Defending champion Southwoods is another shot down with 113 after rounds of 30 from Zeus Sara, a pair of 28s from TJ Padilla and Zach Villaroman.
