SADANGA,Mountain Province, Philippines — The Provincial Government’s completed gymnasium project at Betwagan National High School, along with other completed infrastructure projects in Betwagan and Anabel, was inaugurated on August 15, 2025. The ribbon-cutting ceremony of the gym was led by Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., together with Board Members (BM) Ezra Samson A. Gomez and Roy Gammonac, Sadanga Mayor Robert B. Wanawan, Punong Barangays Benedict Sid-ay of Betwagan and Joseph Agayso of Anabel, Public Schools District Supervisor Jacinto Yassan, Betwagan National High School Principal II Jun Jun L. Mek-eng, Executive Assistants Winston V. Calde and Rolando Bragado, and the heads and other personnel from the Provincial Government, Municipal Government of Sadanga, and Barangay Government of Betwagan and Anabel while the blessing was officiated by Fr. Ferdie Fulatao. According to Provincial Engineer Edward B. Likigan, the Department of Public Works and Highways started the gymnasium construction in 2016 and was subsequently ceased due to some problems. Due to the determination of the community and the government to complete the stalled project, the Provincial Government continued the gym’s construction last August 2024 through a six-million loan from the LandBank of the Philippines until it was completed on May 26, 2025. Governor Lacwasan recognized the invaluable contributions of the community members of Betwagan, including the land donor, in the realization of the gymnasium. Together with BMs Gomez and Gammonac, he reminded all the beneficiaries of the project of their responsibility to maintain the gymnasium in good condition to ensure its long-term use – not only for school activities, but also for social and community events. On behalf of the Betwagan community, Mayor Wanawan, together with Punong Barangays Sid-ay and Agayso, and Principal Mek-eng, relayed their gratitude to the Provincial Government. They said that the realisation of the gymnasium will make a significant change in the development of students in sports and give the community a better venue to hold their social events. NEW CLARK CITY, Philippines — Showcasing its commitment to transforming the Philippines into a hub for world-class sports facilities, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has partnered with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to optimize the use of BCDA properties for national sports development. On Wednesday, August 13, BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua M. Bingcang and PSC Chairperson John Patrick “Pato” Gregorio signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that aims to modernize the country’s sports infrastructure by leveraging key BCDA assets. Under the agreement, BCDA and PSC will form a joint task force to identify and assess BCDA properties that can be developed into premier training and sports facilities. Among the priority locations are New Clark City, which is envisioned to host a national training center and Baguio City, identified for the establishment of an additional high-performance facility. “This partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission is a force multiplier. By linking BCDA’s land development capabilities with PSC’s national sports mission, together we are laying the groundwork for future champions and promoting a healthier, more active Filipino nation,” BCDA President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang said. The initiative will also explore innovative funding models like public-private partnerships, implement advanced design and construction methods, and establish professional management to ensure the creation of world-class, sustainable, and self-sufficient sports infrastructure. Furthermore, this collaborative effort will maximize the utilization of government resources, promote long-term sports development, and foster a new beginning of excellence in Philippine sports. “The President’s directive is clear: build from the grassroots. We are building regional training centers across the country to speed up the national sports development agenda. Why? These are investments that combine youth empowerment with economic progress. I am happy the BCDA and PSC are equally committed to creating opportunities for regional development through sports,” PSC Chairman Gregorio said. New Clark City, positioned as the country’s new premier sports destination, boasts top-tier facilities, including World Athletics-certified Athletics Stadium, which has a 20,000-seating capacity with a nine-lane 400-meter track and field, and another four-lane warm-up track; as well as the World Aquatics-approved Aquatics Center, boasting a total seating capacity of 2,000, a 10-lane competition pool, eight-lane training pool and a diving pool. Additionally, the 525-unit Athletes’ Village provides accommodations for participating and training athletes in New Clark City. The rising metropolis also serves as the home for the National Academy of Sports. BCDA’s new initiative strongly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), bringing both health and infrastructure benefits to our community. Globe, DICT forge stronger collaboration to combat fraud and scams

MANILA, Philippines — Globe and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a stronger, more integrated framework to curb fraud, scams, and other ICT-enabled crimes. The partnership formalizes a Collaborative Framework for Fraud Prevention and Investigation, ensuring closer cooperation between Globe and DICT, along with its attached agencies, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the National Privacy Commission (NPC), and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC). This initiative supports government and industry-wide efforts to safeguard Filipinos from identity theft, phishing, SMS scams, and other fraudulent activities that have proliferated in the digital space. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda underscored the importance of public-private collaboration in building a safe and trusted digital ecosystem. “Connectivity should not be an afterthought, but a built-in part of how we design and build the future. With partners like Globe, I am confident that we are taking bold steps toward a future where every Filipino, wherever they may be, is connected and empowered. Free meals for college students in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The long-awaited monthly food vouchers of indigent college students will be fulfilled after the City Council approved the Free Youth Meals for College Students Ordinance of 2023. The free youth meals program under the ordinance aims to make education more accessible by reducing food insecurity and supporting the retention rate of college students, especially those from low-income households, while also promoting health and nutrition. Under the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) administered by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the city’s free meals program will provide up to P2,500 in monthly food vouchers to qualified low-income college students in institutions of higher learning in the city. The program applies to college or university students in the city, including student assistants, if they meet specific qualifications which include: being a Baguio resident from a low-income family, passing the screening conducted by CSWDO, maintaining passing grades, and not being a recipient of other government assistance. The distribution will be handled through a secure system in collaboration with participating schools to verify eligibility and prevent misuse. Qualified students are given P2,500 worth of food vouchers per month. These vouchers are redeemable at accredited partner food establishments within the city. An initial fund of P2.64 million under the CSWDO budget has been allocated for the first year of implementation. According to CSWDO, the initial target number of beneficiaries is 100 and applicants may submit the following requirements to the CSWDO office units at Saint Louis University (SLU), University of the Cordilleras (UC), and University of Baguio (UB) or to the social worker assigned to each barangay. The relevant documents to be submitted are the application form, Certification of indigency from CSWDO, through its unit offices. For incoming freshmen: Form 138 (High School Report Card); for other college levels: copy of grades from the previous semester; Barangay certificate of residency stating that the applicant’s family is a bonafide resident of Baguio City for at least one year; Voter’s ID or COMELEC voter’s certificate (if not available, parent’s voter’s ID or voter’s certificate). The ordinance, authored by former Sangguniang Kabataan Federation (SKF) President Levy Lloyd Orcales, was adopted by the city council in 2023. SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – Tatlong bagong kaso ng COVID-19 ang naitala sa Lungsod ng San Pablo, habang isang pasyente naman ang gumaling sa sakit, mula Agosto 9 hanggang 15, 2025. Sa kasalukuyan, nananatiling tatlo ang aktibong kaso na mahigpit na mino-monitor ng City Health Office. Ayon sa ulat, ang mga bagong kaso ay mula sa Barangay San Marcos, San Mateo at San Gregorio. Ang mga pasyente ay kasalukuyang sumasailalim sa monitoring at kaukulang isolation protocols. Samantala, ang pasyenteng nakarekober ay mula sa Barangay II-C (Poblacion). Batay sa pinakahuling tala, umabot na sa 13,145 ang kabuuang kumpirmadong kaso ng COVID-19 sa San Pablo City. Sa bilang na ito, 12,693 ang gumaling at 449 ang nasawi.
