SSS Luzon North 1 Division Recognizes 2025 Best Employees

By Roline Cabantoc- BA English Language Studies, University of the Cordilleras   Fifteen employees from the nine branches under the SSS Luzon North 1 Division and attached offices competed to claim as the Best Customer Service, Best Support Service and Best Supervisor, during its annual Search for Best Employees last June 16, 2025 held at SSS Baguio office. This year, TJ Christian Ruiz, Social Security Officer III and Jenny Jane Baybaya, Senior Member Service Representative, both from SSS Baguio emerged as Best Supervisor and Best Customer Service respectively. Lovely Lamorena, Senior Executive Assistant from the Office of the Vice President was declared the Best Support Service Employee. All three winners will advance to Luzon Operations Group Level Search. Concurrent Acting Vice President Nancy M. Umoso commended the Baguio Branch awardees, emphasizing that their success reflects the high standards upheld by the SSS. “This achievement is not only a source of pride for the Baguio Branch but also the entire division. It proves that through innovation, integrity, and dedication, we can elevate public service to greater heights,” she stated. The selection was based on three main criteria: Outstanding Performance and Impact, Exemplary Ethical Behavior, and Personality. The first criterion recognized innovative contributions that improved service delivery, including sustainable practices aligned with the SSS’s goals in governance, social responsibility, and environmental care. The second evaluated each nominee’s adherence to the Code of Conduct under Republic Act No. 6713, as well as the core values of the SSS. The final criterion assessed communication skills, professionalism, flexibility, and interpersonal effectiveness. The Search for Best Employee is part of the annual celebration of SSS Anniversary celebrated during September. For this year, SSS will celebrate its 68th year of founding.

JHMC, PhilTRA move to develop CJH Trails as Trail Running Capital

Camp John Hay, Baguio City—The John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) and the Philippine Trail Running Association (PhilTRA) have formalized their commitment to advancing trail running in Camp John Hay (CJH) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today, June 18, 2025, at the Bell House, Camp John Hay. President of PhilTRA, Atty. James Roldan was enthusiastic about the partnership and emphasized how it may improve CJH’s standing as the hub for trail running events. “This partnership will position CJH as the trail running capital not only of Baguio but of the entire country. We hope that, in the future, trail running will become an Olympic event, and initiatives like these will help propel the sport to greater heights,” he stated. Meanwhile, JHMC President and Chief Executive Officer Manjit T. Singh Reandi underscored the harmony between sports and environmental conservation, aligning with JHMC’s mission to preserve the camp’s ecological and historical assets. “Through this collaboration, we aim to support elite athletes while inspiring the next generation to engage in environmental advocacy through sports,” Singh Reandi remarked. The partnership will enhance trail safety, accessibility, and sustainability, with initiatives such as “Batang PHILTRA” consistent with JHMC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. Globe secures back-to-back spot in Fortune Southeast Asia 500

Globe has again been recognized on the prestigious Fortune Southeast Asia 500 annual list, solidifying its position among the region’s largest companies. The company ranked No. 114 in the 2025 Fortune Southeast Asia 500, placing it among the top Philippine telcos on the list and within the top 20 Philippine companies overall. Now on its second edition, the list honors the 500 top‑performing firms by revenue in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines for fiscal year 2024. Globe underpinned its inclusion with a stellar performance last year, posting all-time high consolidated gross service revenues of Php 165 billion and EBITDA of Php 86.8 billion. It ended the year with Php 21.5 billion in core net income and 60.9 million mobile subscribers. The company also delivered robust performance in 2025, recording Php 39.9 billion in consolidated service revenues for the first quarter, with EBITDA at Php 20.8 billion and net income at Php 7 billion. Its mobile base expanded to 61.6 million during the period, reflecting continued customer growth. “Being named to the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 for two consecutive years affirms Globe’s drive to deliver digital inclusion to uplift the lives of our customers. We will continue to innovate responsibly and create value for the communities we serve,” said President and CEO Carl Cruz. According to Fortune, the companies in the list generated a combined USD 1.82 trillion in revenue, up from USD 1.79 trillion the year before. The results reflect Southeast Asia’s expanding role in global trade, amid supply chain realignments and rapid growth in sectors such as energy and banking. “Fortune’s interest in the region reflects Southeast Asia’s growing importance as an engine of global growth,” says Clay Chandler, Executive Editor, Asia. “The region has become a crucial manufacturing and export hub, which is drawing significant capital flows. This momentum has been further fueled by Trump-era tariffs, which have reshaped global trade dynamics and driven a shift towards Southeast Asia.” Against this backdrop, Globe continues to lead the Philippine telecom market while accelerating its presence in fintech and enterprise digital services. SMC ranks 9th in 2025 Fortune Southeast Asia 500 list, sole Filipino company in the top ten

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has once again been named the highest-ranking Philippine company in the 2025 Fortune Southeast Asia 500, securing the 9th spot on this prestigious list of the region’s largest companies by revenue. Now in its second year, the list highlights the growing role of Southeast Asia — including Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines — as a key engine of global economic growth and a vital hub for global supply chains. The companies on this year’s list collectively generated $1.82 trillion in revenue for 2024, up from $1.79 trillion the year before, with the minimum revenue to qualify set at $349.4 million. SMC, one of Southeast Asia’s most diversified conglomerates, remains the only Philippine company in the top ten for two consecutive years. Fortune’s list, curated by a team led by list director Ashleigh Nghiem and editor Scott DeCarlo, draws from rigorous reviews of financial reports and third-party data providers, including LSEG, Bloomberg, and S&P Global Market Intelligence. “Being recognized once again by Fortune inspires us to keep raising the bar,” said SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang. “This is a reflection not just of our financial performance, but of our commitment to nation-building and to supporting communities wherever we operate. Our real success is measured by the livelihoods we help sustain, the access we create, and the opportunities we open for Filipinos.” This is the second time this year that SMC has been cited in regional business rankings, following last February’s release of TIME and Statista’s 2025 Top 500 Companies Shaping Business in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2024, it earned global recognition when it was named among the World’s Best Companies by TIME and Forbes’ Best Employers, where it was the highest-ranked Philippine firm in the latter’s top 100. Last year, SMC achieved record consolidated revenues of ₱1.6 trillion, up 9% from the previous year. For the first quarter of 2025, SMC posted earnings of ₱43.4 billion, with core net income rising 31% to ₱19 billion after adjusting for non-recurring gains—reflecting strong performance across its businesses. Community at Work: SM Cares joins Brigada Eskwela 2025

  In support of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) annual Brigada Eskwela initiative, SM Supermalls mobilized thousands of volunteers across its malls nationwide from June 9 to 13, 2025, to help prepare public schools for the upcoming academic year. This year’s Brigada  Eskwela carried the theme, “Nagkakaisa para sa Handa at Ligtas na Pagbabalik Eskwela.” As a long-time DepEd partner, SM Supermalls once again participated in Brigada Eskwela 2025 as part of its broader commitment to youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, and inclusive community building. The initiative was rolled out across 75 SM Supermalls, with more than a thousand employee-volunteers working hand-in-hand with DepEd, local government units (LGUs), school representatives, and community members. It empowered community volunteers to make a tangible impact by helping schools prepare safe, clean, and inspiring learning environments. In Baguio City, the Brigada Eskwela happened at Lindawan Elementary School in Barangay Lucnab. “We are proud to be part of Brigada Eskwela again this year. Education is the cornerstone of nation building, and through volunteerism and shared responsibility, we aim to help create safe and welcoming learning spaces for students all across the country,” said Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls. SM employee-volunteers engaged in a wide range of preparatory activities including classroom cleaning and disinfection, repainting of walls and learning spaces, repairs of desks and chairs, and the turnover of essential learning materials. Through shared efforts, this annual initiative not only enhanced school facilities but also strengthened community ties and encouraged a culture of unity, pride, and collective responsibility for education. The program benefited 66 public schools across the country, helping ensure that thousands of Filipino learners return to a clean, safe, and functional learning environment when classes resume. NV to hold Agritourism Congress to Boost Economic Recovery

Gambito, is set to host the Nueva Vizcaya Agritourism Congress on June 24, 2025, at the Department of Agriculture-Nueva Vizcaya Experimental Station (DA-NVES) in Bagabag. The event is organized through the Provincial Tourism and Culture Office and the Provincial Agriculture Office, in partnership with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), DA-NVES, and the Nueva Vizcaya Farm Tourism Stakeholders Association. The congress aims to highlight the province’s strategy for economic recovery by focusing on farm tourism. It underscores the collaboration between the Department of Tourism and the Department of Agriculture in response to the growing interest in agritourism in the region. Farm owners, stakeholders, and tourism officers are expected to participate in the congress, which will feature engagements with agricultural experts and discussions on best practices in agritourism. The event will also include a familiarization tour for participants. Governor Gambito emphasized the significance of the event, saying, “Through agritourism, we are not only promoting sustainable agriculture and tourism, but we are also creating new opportunities for our local farmers and communities. This congress is a vital step in our efforts to drive economic recovery and showcase the rich agricultural heritage of Nueva Vizcaya.

BayaNiJuan Festival 2025 all set ready in Tiaong, Quezon

By Danny Estacio   TIAONG, Quezon- The festival executive committee for the 2025 on its 3rd year of celebration BayaniJuan festival is all prepared and ready for the one-week-long festivities, which will be attended by some famous television and movie celebrities starting on June 18 to June 24, 2025. Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea assured the public that all preparations have been fully observed and implemented, particularly on security matters for the safety of the local and foreign tourists who will grace the celebration. Some of the invited celebrities are Maris Racal of Incognito, Kyle Echarri, and Joshua Garcia at the Mayor RJM night on June 24 at the festival stage. Mea and the local government invited the public to witness the event in celebration of the feast of the patron, St. John the Baptist. Other activities are A Treat To BalikBayan 2025 on June 18; Thanksgiving Mass and Opening Salvo, Agri-Tourism Trade Fair on June 19; San Miguel Beer Plaza open mic, 3rd Meaksyon Agad Tagisan ng Kamao on June 20; Juanrun and, Juanayaw sa BayaNiJuan, on June 21; Zumba Marathon, Car and Motor Show, 2nd Pillars of Prosperity (business owners night) on June 22; Papawrmahan ng Bespren ni Juan, a dog fashion show, St. John the Baptist Procession, Hari at Reyna ng Tiaong 2025 on June 23; Buling-Buling Foam Party, Misa Conselebrada, Mayor RJM night on June 24. The festival aims to explore Tiaong to be another tourist destination in Quezon, and it was started during the Mea administration, three years ago in 2022, and it is the youngest festival in the province.

Sports Tourism takes center stage in Iloilo

  Mr. Charles Lim, President & CEO of Sports Turismo Alliance, Inc. Tourism and sports officials pledged to work together to establish Iloilo City and its environs as a major sports hub in the country. This was expressed overwhelmingly at the recently concluded Sports Tourism Forum at the Richmonde Hotel in Iloilo City. Almost one hundred participants from across the province and beyond, belonging to a broad spectrum of the travel and tourism industry and the sports communities witnessed top class speakers reveal best practices in events management, sponsorship expectations and challenges, highlighted with case studies. “The objectives of the one day forum were met with so much synergy between the tourism and sports sectors,” observed Charles Lim of Sports Turismo Alliance, Inc , the main advocate of sport tourism in the country for the past decades and organizer of the Sports Tourism Forum series. ” What was very rewarding were the reactions of event organizers of mega events expressing their keenness in holding events here in Iloilo after realizing its potential, ” added Lim. He cited Princess Galura of Sunrise Events, the organizers of triathlon events such as IRONMAN 70.3 , 51.50, the Rock and Roll Running Series and CyclePH, expressing interest in staging the race events in Iloilo. Similarly, Patrick “Pato” Gregorio, chairman of DuckWorld PH the company that just recently revived the iconic Tour de Luzon. Co-presented by the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI, headed by  Regional Director, Krisma Rodriguez, the  Forum also featured speakers from DOT’s national office, Director Roberto Alabado III, Ms. Mary Jamelle Camba , Tourism Head of multi awardee of sports tourism destination, Subic Bay Freeport, Executive Director of the National Big Bike Convention, Mr. Celso “Toots” Jimenez, Jr and  Mr. Carlo Sampan of Nestle Philippines who announced that this year’s national finals of the MILO Marathon will be held in Iloilo. Sports aficionados of rugby, surfing, biking, pickleball. rowing, running, among others, with local government officials from across Panay and Negros Occidental actively participated in the Forum. The panel discussion featured Mr. Art Boncato, Group General Manager of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts;  Mr. Rein Dayot, head of Sports Development of Iloilo City; Dr. Richard Gabayoyo, professor and sports consultant of West Visayas State University with Mr. Charles Lim, who also is the Founder of Sports Tourism Forum as moderator. “This long awaited event would not have been possible without the support of DOT6, Mayor Jerry Trenas and the City of Iloilo, Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr and the Province of Iloilo, Cebu Pacific Air, Megaworld Hotels and Resorts, Iloilo MICE Alliance, Richmonde Hotel, The Travel Club, Southwest Tours and Bong Bong’s,” explained Lim. The Sports Tourism Forum dates back to 2004 when it was first held in Cebu in preparation for the 2005 SEA Games. It has since been held multiple times in these cities across the country – Davao, Clark, Subic, Bacolod, Puerto Princesa, Laoag and Manila.
