The Cebu Pacific Training Academy in Parañaque City is a purpose-built facility aimed at providing high-quality, hands-on, and experience-based training for prospective aviation professionals. It is one of the first centralized, modern aviation training facilities of its kind in the country. Covering 1,685 square meters, the Cebu Pacific Training Academy is equipped with Airbus A330 and ATR door trainers, cabin mock-ups, slide trainers, as well as classrooms and equipment rooms that allow prospective pilots and cabin crew to experience scenario-based and practical training straight from the airline’s highly capable instructors. CEB Chairman Lance Gokongwei, Chief Operations Officer Javier Massot, and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Ret. Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario led the inauguration of the training facility. “The Cebu Pacific Training Academy reflects our strong commitment and investment in the Philippines and its aviation industry. This facility allows us to stay focused on what matters most: operational excellence, service consistency, and nation-building,” said Massot. “With this facility, we also seek to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of aviation training standards in the Philippines, and to help raise a generation of more capable and future-ready aviation professionals.” To support aspiring aviation professionals, CEB revived its Cadet Pilot Program in 2024 in partnership with Cebu-based flight training school Airworks Aviation. The program provides prospective pilots with high-quality training, structured mentorship, and a clear pathway to employment with the airline. As of April 2026, the program has produced its second batch of pilot graduates. Globe champions resilient, secure connectivity as President and CEO Carl Cruz joins GSMA 6G and anti-scam summit in Tokyo

NCR

As global uncertainty and digital threats intensify, Globe is calling for a more disciplined and people-focused approach to the future of connectivity. In Tokyo, Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz participated in two key international engagements, joining industry leaders to contribute to discussions on 6G and strengthen collective action against online scams. Cruz took part in the Digital Nations Summit, where global telecom and technology leaders discussed the evolution of 5G-Advanced and the path toward 6G. He also joined industry discussions on combating digital fraud, including efforts under the United Against Scams initiative, reinforcing the need to embed trust and security at the core of the digital ecosystem. Cruz is also among global telecom leaders who signed the Tokyo Accord alongside representatives from NTT DOCOMO, KDDI, SoftBank, Rakuten Mobile, LG Uplus, the XG Mobile Promotion Forum, the 6G Forum, the Bharat 6G Alliance, and the GSMA, committing to the development of secure, inclusive, and resilient digital ecosystems. “Connectivity today carries far more than data. It carries trust, livelihoods, and the ability of people to stay connected in moments that matter most,” said Cruz. “As we look toward 6G, the priority is clear. We have to build networks that are resilient, secure, and dependable in everyday life, especially when conditions are most challenging.” From speed to stability At the Digital Nations Summit, Globe emphasized that the future of connectivity must move beyond peak performance metrics and focus on consistency. While 6G is expected to unlock new capabilities through AI-native infrastructure, Cruz underscored that what matters most to customers is a connection that works when they need it. For the Philippines, where geography and natural disasters continue to challenge infrastructure, this approach is critical. Globe highlighted the importance of hybrid connectivity models that combine terrestrial networks with satellite technologies to ensure continuous service across more than 7,000 islands. “Resilience is no longer optional. It is the standard people expect,” Cruz said. “A stable connection that holds under pressure is far more valuable than speed that cannot be sustained.” Strengthening trust in a high-risk digital environment In a separate engagement focused on online security, Globe underscored the urgency of strengthening digital trust as scams and cyber threats escalate globally. The company noted that in the Philippines, suspected fraud rates have reached 13 percent, more than double the global average of 5 percent, while 34 percent of users have experienced scams. These risks are rising alongside the rapid expansion of the digital economy, which is projected to reach $36 billion. Globally, scams have already resulted in an estimated $1 trillion in losses, reinforcing the need for stronger safeguards across networks and platforms. “Trust is the backbone of the digital economy,” Cruz said. “If people do not feel safe, they disengage. That is why security, privacy, and accountability must be built into the network from the start.” Globe shared that it has taken an active role in strengthening protection at scale, blocking 967 million scam and spam messages and more than 17,000 malicious domains in 2025 alone, alongside programs that engaged nearly 17,000 users to build digital safety awareness. A disciplined path to 6G Across both engagements, Globe maintained that innovation must translate into real-world value. As the industry begins shaping the 6G roadmap, the company is advocating for early engagement while remaining grounded in practical use cases and sustainable investments. Cruz highlighted the importance of regional collaboration, noting that Asia-Pacific’s diversity offers a unique opportunity to develop and scale solutions across different environments, from dense urban centers to remote communities. “We are not chasing technology for its own sake,” he said. “We are focused on what it enables. Better services, stronger economies, and a more secure digital environment for everyone.” As the telecommunications industry moves toward the next phase of innovation, Globe emphasized that progress must be guided by responsibility, ensuring reliable connectivity across both urban centers and hard-to-reach communities as digital transformation accelerates.

These initiatives include policy enhancements to improve accessibility, and the early implementation of this year’s pension increase to provide timely financial relief to members, pensioners, and employers. SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro said, “We recognize that rising prices and economic uncertainty continue to place pressure on Filipino families and businesses. Through these enhanced programs, SSS is ensuring that our members and pensioners have access to timely, affordable and reliable financial support when they need it most.” Collectively, these programs are expected to provide up to approximately ₱60 billion in financial assistance and benefit support. Emergency Loan Program Members facing urgent financial needs may apply for the enhanced Emergency Loan Program, which offers up to ₱20,000 at a reduced interest rate of 7% per annum, with a six-month repayment moratorium. To improve accessibility, SSS has relaxed the eligibility requirements from 36 to 18 months of posted contributions, with at least six (6) contributions posted within the last 12 months. The program now also covers members with minimal past-due loans of up to three (3) monthly amortizations, as well as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) through simplified eligibility requirements. Around ₱27 billion has been allocated for this program, which is expected to benefit an estimated 2.24 million eligible members, providing a safe and affordable alternative to informal lenders and helping them cover essential expenses such as medical needs, education and daily household requirements. These initiatives resulted in CEB’s improving customer experience. The airline recorded a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of +35, up seven points from previous year, alongside gains in service areas such as boarding, baggage handling, and inflight service, signaling stronger passenger satisfaction. Following a strong performance in 2025, CEB is building momentum as it celebrates its 30th anniversary, with a continued focus on expanding affordable air travel while advancing its sustainability commitments.

Robert Ewing and Philippine Secretary of Health Teodoro Herbosa signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on Health Cooperation on April 7. Through the Trump Administration’s America First Global Health Strategy, this Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) commits to further U.S. health cooperation with the Philippines – an important friend, partner, and Ally. The JDI establishes a framework for the Philippines to transition to greater autonomy and self-reliance in its health systems while strengthening the Philippines’ capacity to detect and respond to global health threats, including HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and other infectious diseases, and improve diagnostics and treatment. Chargé d’Affaires Ewing also announced a significant U.S. contribution to strengthen the Philippines’ fight against tuberculosis.  This includes provision of Php580 million ($10 million) worth of TB medicines and 12 ultraportable TB X-ray machines valued at Php45.4 million ($783,000), and a Php14.5 million ($250,000) grant to the Philippines’ Veterans Memorial Medical Center to expand TB testing and treatment for Filipino veterans. These announcements build on decades of gains made through U.S. global health assistance, including the Php13.8 billion ($250 million) in U.S. foreign assistance through the Trump Administration’s America First Global Health Strategy announced in September 2025, addressing tuberculosis, advancing maternal health, and enhancing preparedness, detection, and response to emerging diseases and global health threats in the Philippines. “The United States greatly values its longstanding partnership with the Philippine Department of Health, especially our work together on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and global health security,” Chargé d’Affaires Ewing said. “Through this Joint Declaration, the United States continues to engage closely with the Philippine government and health partners to support the Philippines’ continued progress toward greater autonomy and self-reliance in its health programs, and to identify impactful and innovative approaches to advance lifesaving work on TB and global health security,” he added. Through this JDI, the United States and the Philippines will negotiate a five-year Strategic Objective Agreement, advancing all three pillars of the Trump Administration’s America First Global Health Strategy that will save American and Filipino lives, increase the resiliency of the Philippine health system through coordinated co-funding, and foster collaboration with American commercial leaders in health technology and innovation to improve health outcomes. The Philippines has a strong track record of making commitments with the United States and leveraging innovations in the shared fight against infectious diseases like TB and HIV.  The Philippine government’s efforts to enhance prevention, care, and innovation, including seeking new technology to counter these two diseases, are goals shared by the United States and are being advanced through this Declaration. This Joint Declaration joins several Bilateral Memoranda of Understanding on Global Health Cooperation with recipient countries, driving progress around the world through the Trump Administration’s America First Global Health Strategy.
