BCDA, K-Water partner for Camp John Hay, Poro Point water infrastructure system

Baguio City

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and its subsidiaries John Hay Management Corporation and Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC) signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) to pursue smart water management system in Camp John Hay in Baguio City and Poro Point in La Union. Under the agreements, K-Water will contribute its extensive expertise and proven track record in water resources development, management, and cutting-edge smart water technology. K-Water will leverage its advanced expertise in water supply management, particularly its Smart Water Network Management (SWNM) system, to deliver a solution tailored to the specific needs of the local environment. The project will commence with the deployment of experts to assess existing infrastructure and develop a strategic implementation plan. “K-water is the ideal partner to address the critical water management challenges we face in the revitalization of Camp John Hay, the continued development of Poro Point, and the dynamic growth of New Clark City,” BCDA President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang said. Bingcang expressed confidence that this strategic collaboration with K-Water directly addresses the pressing challenges the Philippines faces due to climate change. “By partnering with K-water, we are embarking on a transformative journey that will drastically reduce water loss and establish AI-powered water purification plants that will ensure a stable and high-quality water supply for the communities we serve,” he added. Furthermore, these agreements will also allow BCDA to focus on key areas such as diagnosing and improving water supply stability; investigating new water resources; reducing leakage; and sharing knowledge in the water sector. Last year, BCDA also partnered with K-Water on water resource development in New Clark City, where they conducted feasibility studies for comprehensive water management plans, ensuring a stable supply through AI-driven water purification systems. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 13 (Climate Action).

RHR breaks ground on Summit Villas Siargao, eyes upscale tourism market

Vis-Min

Robinsons Hotels & Resorts (RHR), the hospitality arm of Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), has officially broken ground on Summit Villas Siargao, its first resort on the island, marking the company’s entry into one of the country’s fastest-growing tourist destinations. Set to open in 2026, Summit Villas Siargao is being developed by Hira Holdings Inc. through Mega Mykon Builders, and will be managed by RHR under its Summit Hotels and Resorts brand. The resort will have 18 standalone villas, each with private amenities and eco-conscious features. The tropical design and elegant architecture reflect RHR and Hira Holdings’ commitment to sustainability as a guiding principle in its design and operations, aligning with the island’s broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism in the region. “Summit Villas Siargao is more than just a new property — it’s a celebration of the island’s natural beauty, vibrant culture, and rapidly growing tourism appeal,” said Mr. Barun Jolly, Senior Vice President and Business Unit General Manager of Robinsons Hotels & Resorts. “We are excited to bring the Summit brand’s signature warmth, style, and Filipino brand of excellence to Siargao.” Located near the island’s popular Cloud 9 surfing area and Tourism Road, the upcoming resort targets the upscale segment of domestic and international travelers seeking higher-end accommodations in Siargao. “Summit Villas Siargao reflects our strategy to expand into key leisure destinations while contributing to local tourism growth,” adds Mr. Jolly. “We see strong demand for quality hospitality in Siargao, and this development aims to respond to that.” The project is RHR’s latest move in broadening its portfolio of Summit-branded properties, which currently operates in urban and business hubs across the country. For Hira Holdings, the development represents its initial venture into the hospitality industry. “We’re optimistic about the tourism outlook in Siargao,” said Seth Hiranand, Managing Director of Hira Holdings. “This project is a long-term investment in the island’s potential as a premier travel destination.” During the groundbreaking ceremony, Hira Holdings also announced a partnership with Malinao Elementary School to become the local green hub for the resort’s future sustainability programs, signaling a focus on corporate social responsibility alongside development. Tourist arrivals in Siargao have steadily increased in recent years, prompting more developers to explore opportunities in the island’s hospitality sector. Industry stakeholders have emphasized the importance of balancing growth with environmental stewardship, especially as infrastructure and tourism activity ramp up post-pandemic.

Tahimik Pero Matatag: Ang Kampanya ni Pastorโ€“Public Servant Eng. Poppo Cosalan sa Pulitika ng Baguio

Baguio City, Inside Politics

SDO Isabela stomps class anew to claim 2nd straight CAVRAA title

Sports

It’s official—the Schools Division Office of Isabela is now a back-to-back regional sports champion, reasserting its stronghold in the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA) Meet with a much-improved performance from last year’s edition. The Isabele๑o athletes put on masterclass outings in various sporting events to deliver on their promise of keeping the crown in the Queen’s grasp, racking up 318 medals with 117 golds, 101 silvers, and 100 bronzes. “Ang mindset po naming lahat e i-keep po ang pagdodominate sa swimming para tumaas po tayo sa ranking at hindi po maagaw ang championship,” Eric Virgilio Reyes, a Palarong Pambansa qualifier and one of Isabela’s most decorated swimmers, said. ๐–๐Ž๐‘๐“๐‡ ๐“๐‡๐„ ๐ƒ๐‘๐ˆ๐‹๐‹ Coming into this year’s CAVRAA Meet, the green armies were primed to prevail as they were in a much better condition after their 40-day training regimen, a 63-percent increase from their 15-day preparation in 2024. ‘Yung dating 15 days last year, nagawa nating dagdagan sa 40 ngayon, kaya alam kong mas lalo tayong lalaban,” Manolo Bagunu, Isabela Division Sports Officer, said. The training proved to make a difference as the delegation supplied Isabela with enough gold on a daily basis to sustain the lead in the overall standings. ๐’๐‡๐€๐‘๐„๐ƒ ๐’๐„๐‚๐‘๐„๐“ Bagunu also attributed the delegation’s sterling performances to their sports interventions after a thorough study of Isabela’s CAVRAA showings in previous years. “Nagconduct tayo ng comparative analysis ng 2023 at 2024 CAVRAA to carefully look into how we performed in the past two years. Kaya nalaman natin agad kung saan tayo malakas at mahina,” Bagunu said. “So, ang ginawa natin, pinaigting natin ang training ng mga mahihinang events at lalo pa nating pinalakas ang dating gold miners like swimming para sure na sure na talagang atin pa rin ngayong taon,” he added. After last year’s dismal showing, arnis, chess, and taekwondo scaled up their games to haul in a combined 24-gold-medal count. Swimming, which handed Isabela its biggest gold mine with 29, also increased its gold medal reap to five, while athletics truly delivered as one of Isabela’s medal-rich events, doubling its gold reap from 11 to 22. Dancesports also sustained its contribution with seven golds. ๐Š๐ˆ๐ƒ๐ƒ๐ˆ๐„ ๐€๐‘๐Œ๐ˆ๐„๐’ The delegation found a big chunk of its gold count from the elementary division, rallying Isabela to a commanding lead over other kiddie delegates in the region. For its part, the secondary level kept its pace to secure a one-gold edge over Cagayan. The sports officer said that the same attention was given to both levels during the training, and their standings in their categories were a reflection of their rivals’ performances and athletic qualities. Isabela Schools Division Superintendent Rachel Llana recognized the effort of everyone who contributed to the Emerald’s successful campaign for another championship title. The superintendent also expressed her most profound gratitude to the Provincial Government of Isabela (PGI), through Gov. Rodito T. Albano III and Vice-Gov. Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III, the whole officialdom of the PGI, and all LGUs for their utmost support to the division from the preparations to the actual regional sports festivity, The 117-gold-medal finish of Isabela in this year’s CAVRAA Meet, a 35-gold medal clear of its closest rival Cagayan, is the division’s best performance so far since 2010. Baguio City celebrates National Heritage Month

Baguio City

In celebration of National Heritage Month this May, the City of Baguio proudly re-launches “Dugad Mi” an inspiring multimedia exhibit crafted by the city’s youth, capturing the soul and identity of their communities. “Dugad Mi,” meaning “Our Place” in Ibaloy, serves as a profound expression of the young generation’s connection to their heritage and aspirations for the future. National Heritage Month, declared under Presidential Decree No. 439, emphasizes the importance of fostering consciousness, respect, and love for Filipino cultural history. In 2025, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) set the theme “Preserving Legacies, Building Futures: Empowering Communities through Heritage,” underscoring the role of heritage in empowering future generations. Answering this call, Baguio City’s Cultural Mapping Project initiated by the City Planning, Development, and Sustainability Office documented 327 natural and cultural heritage resources, including significant personalities in the city’s history. Building on this foundation, the “Dugad Mi” project empowered Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) leaders from 25 barangays through modular training sessions that explored the meaning of “place,” local histories, and the critical role of heritage conservation. Through creative visual arts exercises, participants reconnected with their communities, translating memories, stories, and identities into powerful exhibits. Their works reveal how history, values, and traditions shape meaningful places transforming empty spaces into vibrant, living communities. Originally launched during last year’s Ibagiw Festival, “Dugad Mi” is a collaborative effort of the City Planning, Development and Sustainability Office and the Baguio City Creative Council. It represents a strategic planning initiative that blends heritage conservation with creative placemaking, offering a framework that supports Baguio’s identity as a UNESCO Creative City. Rosella Camte-Bahni, from the City Planning, Development and Sustainability Office, emphasized the lasting impact of the project: “Our young people, having traced their roots through this project, now see their communities with new eyes filled with pride, meaning, and responsibility. They can now truly and proudly say, ‘This is my place. This is Dugad Mi.’” The City of Baguio invites everyone to visit the exhibit and join in celebrating National Heritage Month. Discover the powerful stories of our young artists and reflect on the legacies that shape our shared future.
