Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the ribbon cutting of the newly constructed livelihood center for the PWD at the Orchidarium, Burnham Park, last March 28.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong stated that the livelihood center initiative intends to provide a dedicated area for people with disabilities to showcase and sell their products.
The livelihood center is designed to empower disabled people by allowing them to enhance their entrepreneurial skills. It also takes a vital step in empowering its PWD community by providing them with the tools and opportunities they require for personal and economic progress.
Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan, Dr. Samuel Aquino, head of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), Engr. Stephen Capuyan, assistant head of the City Building and Architecture Office(CBAO), members of the City Council, and the PWD community were also present at the ceremony.
Aside from being a marketplace, the center will also act as a café, providing career opportunities for people with disabilities as staff members and service staff.
Dr. Samuel Aquino, PDAO Head, emphasized that to work and show their goods, PWD folks must be members of Baguio’s Persons with Disability Cooperative.
Only registered members will have access to the free livelihood space, guaranteeing that the center directly serves the local PWD Community.
