La Union Receives National, Regional Awards for Fisheries Conservation

LA UNION, Philippines — The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) headed by Provincial Agriculturist Marcelo J. Otanes, received the Gawad Pagkilala sa mga Kabalikat ng Pangisdaan – National Level from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) during the 63rd Fish Conservation Week Celebration on September 18, 2026, at Luvent Hotel, Quezon City.

La Union further underscored its commitment to fisheries development and conservation as Ms. Leony O. Gagni of OPAg received the Gawad Pagkilala sa mga Kabalikat ng Pangisdaan – Regional Level during the Fish Conservation Week celebration on September 21, 2026, at Aureo Hotel and Resort, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The Gawad Pagkilala recognizes individuals, organizations, and government institutions that have demonstrated exemplary performance, dedicated advocacy, and significant contributions to the conservation, protection, and sustainable management of fisheries and aquatic resources, as well as to the empowerment of fisherfolk communities.

These recognitions highlight the continuing efforts of OPAg and the Provincial Government–Environment and Natural Resources Office to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage the province’s fisheries and aquatic resources. They also reflect the strong partnership among the Department of Agriculture, BFAR, local government units, fisherfolk organizations, and other stakeholders in advancing responsible stewardship of aquatic resources while supporting the livelihood and welfare of fisherfolk communities.
