LA UNION, Philippines — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of La Union has called for an immediate inquiry into rising electricity bills and the long-term reliability of power supply in the province amid concerns from households, businesses and investors.

In a privilege speech, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member (SPM) Eulogio Clarence Martin P. De Guzman III called for a dialogue with officials of the La Union Electric Cooperative, La Union Electric Company, Department of Energy, Energy Regulatory Commission, and National Electrification Administration to discuss the recent rate adjustments and explore measures to ensure a stable, reliable, and sustainable power supply for the province.

SPM De Guzman said the inquiry also examined infrastructure expansion, demand forecasts and contingency measures for power shortages and major outages, noting that while electricity rates fall under national regulation, the Provincial Government has a role in protecting consumers and ensuring transparency and accountability.

The initiative seeks to prepare La Union’s energy sector for rising demand and ensure that its infrastructure can keep pace with the province’s continued growth and development.
