La Union SP approved the solution in night transport gap

LA UNION, Philippines — Getting home at night remains a challenge for hundreds of employees, thousands of shoppers, and other commuters who rely on public transportation as fewer public utility vehicles (PUVs) remain available after regular operating hours.

To help address the concern, First District Board Member Ernesto Rafon, with the support of fellow members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), filed a resolution requesting the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office 1 to establish a special or developmental route from the SM City San Fernando terminal to municipalities in the First and Second Districts of La Union to serve commuters at night.

BM Rafon said the proposed route was the result of consultations with the SM management and Region 1 transport groups and cooperative and is now subject to the approval of the LTFRB.

The proposed route is intended to assist employees who finish their shifts from 7:30PM and 9:00PM as well as other commuters traveling north and south while providing an alternative to unauthorized transport arrangements.

The SP approved the resolution on August 25, 2026 and will be forwarded to the LTFRB for appropriate action.
