BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The Filipino at Tsino Magkaibigan Foundation has once again distributed 1,000 sacks of 5 kilos of rice to three local government units, as aid to those affected by the previous typhoon and the southwest monsoon.
The donation spearheaded by the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc.-Baguio Chapter led by Peter Ng, together with its members first delivered 300 sacks of rice (5 kilos each) to the Benguet provincial government, on August 27, which was happily received by Governor Melchor Diclas.
Diclas once again expressed his deep gratitude to the Baguio Filipino-Chinese for their continued support of the province’s needs during the calamity.
In the capital town of La Trinidad, officials were also very grateful for the 200 sacks (5 kilos each) of rice provided by the group, which is a great help to the disaster victims.
In the afternoon, the 500 sacks of rice (5 kilos each) were personally delivered by Ng and his group to the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office in Baguio City, which was received by City Administrator Vittorio Jericho Cawis and OCWD Officer Liza Balungayan.
According to Cawis, the donation aims to help almost 400 poor victims of the previous typhoons and southerly winds in the city.
“On behalf of Mayor Benjamin Magalong, thank you very much for the tireless support to the city government of the Filipino-Chinese community, not only during the disaster, but also for their continued support in the city’s tourism development programs,” said Cawis.
He said that based on ODSWDO data, more than 1,000 families were severely affected by the southwest monsoon, so this donation is a basic need of every family.
It can be recalled that last year, the said foundation also donated 1,000 bags of five kilos of rice to the aforementioned LGU’s to be distributed to those affected by the typhoon.
“In our groups and with the support of the foundation, this is our traditional work to deliver aid to disaster victims. On these occasions, we want to show that we are Filipinos who live here and it is only right that we help the community,” said Ng. ( Rose Frejane A, Cruz)
