CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines — Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) arrested one of two suspects identified in a robbery at a commercial establishment in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental, while the second suspect was killed after reportedly firing at police officers during a police encounter on September 2, 2026.
The robbery occurred at about 11:15 p.m. on September 1, 2026. The suspects allegedly gained entry through an opening they created in the establishment’s rear concrete wall. They reportedly forcibly opened the vault and took an estimated P60,000 in cash.
Through crime scene processing and the retrieval and examination of available CCTV footage, investigators identified the suspects as alias “Joe” and alias “Boy,” both residents of Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur. “Joe” was also found to have a pending warrant of arrest for Robbery, docketed under Criminal Case No. 2022-10-4516, in Zamboanga del Sur.
Initial investigation also indicated that the suspects are allegedly members of the Pondoyo Robbery Group, which is reportedly operating in Zamboanga del Sur and neighboring regions. The suspects were also identified as suspects in the robbery of the same commercial establishment’s branch in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, in February 2026, as well as the alleged robbery of the same home improvement branch in Tudela, Misamis Occidental, on April 24, 2026.
Acting on information developed during the investigation, Ozamiz City Police Station (Ozamiz CPS) personnel conducted a hot pursuit operation and arrested “Joe” at his residence. Police then proceeded to the nearby residence of “Boy,” who lived in the same area. Upon approaching the area, “Boy,” who was allegedly armed with a caliber .45 pistol, reportedly fired at the operatives, prompting them to defend themselves. The suspect sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was declared dead.
The arrested suspect, “Joe,” will face appropriate charges for Robbery in connection with the Ozamiz City incident and for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to the possession of the caliber .45 pistol.
PBGEN NESTOR C BABAGAY, JR., Regional Director, PRO10, commended the Ozamiz CPS personnel for the prompt investigation, identification, and pursuit of the suspects.
“This accomplishment demonstrates the value of focused and intelligence-driven policing. In less than 24 hours, our personnel developed vital leads, identified the suspects, and acted swiftly to place one of them under arrest. We will continue to pursue individuals and groups involved in robbery and other criminal activities through lawful and properly coordinated police operations,” he said.
The accomplishment is in line with the Focused Agenda of the Chief, Philippine National Police (CPNP), and the directive of the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (SILG) to intensify focused and responsive police operations against criminality.
