BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The City Health Services Office reported the city recorded 125 COVID-19 cases as of August 17, with 120 patients having recovered and five cases remaining active, all of which are mild.

This was reported during the Baguio City Council’s regular session when representatives from the CHSO, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), and the Department of Health (DOH) were called to the session to give an update on the city’s COVID-19 situation.

CHSO Head Celia Brillantes and City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) Head Donnabel Panes said most of the cases recorded in the city were mild. They also noted that most of those who contracted the virus had been vaccinated.

Panes said 99% of the recovered patients had been vaccinated, pointing to vaccination as an important factor in keeping cases from becoming severe.

A significant number of the cases were recorded among health workers who regularly undergo COVID-19 testing as part of infection prevention and control measures in health facilities, the CHSO explained.

Health officials also told the City Council that Baguio has not recorded any case of the Cicada COVID-19 subvariant.

For the entire Cordillera Administrative Region, the DOH recorded 184 COVID-19 cases from January to August 2026. Baguio accounted for 129 cases, followed by Benguet with 39, Mountain Province with seven, Kalinga with four, Apayao and Ifugao with two each, and Abra with one.

While the cases recorded in Baguio have generally been mild, health officials called on the public to continue taking precautions, especially when dealing with senior citizens, children, pregnant women, and persons with comorbidities.

The health officials pointed to the city’s vaccination data as evidence of the protection provided by vaccination against severe COVID-19 outcomes.
