BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – As technology continues to influence the way people work, communicate, and access information, developing digital skills has become increasingly important across different stages of life. From fresh graduates preparing for employment to children exploring emerging technologies and senior citizens learning to navigate the digital space, access to relevant learning opportunities can help individuals become more confident and informed.
Recognizing this, SM City Baguio, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology – Cordillera Administrative Region (DICT-CAR), conducted two learning initiatives that promoted digital literacy, career readiness, and responsible technology use among members of the community.
Through its SM Job Fair, SM Supermalls partnered with DICT-CAR’s Information and Communications Technology Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB) in conducting a free information session for jobseekers and fresh graduates. The session provided participants with practical insights on Digital Literacy and Career Preparation, Information Literacy and the eGovPH App, and Cybersecurity and Cyber Hygiene, equipping them with knowledge and skills relevant to employment and today’s increasingly digital workplace.
“Through our partnership with DICT-CAR and the ILCDB, participants gained practical skills in digital literacy, cybersecurity, and navigating the eGovPH App, tools that are essential in today’s digital economy,” said Jason Peña, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Baguio.
The partnership also extended to children and senior citizens through a separate learning session on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The activity introduced participants to the fundamentals of AI, its practical applications, and the importance of using emerging technologies safely and responsibly. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, children explored how AI can support learning and creativity, while senior citizens gained a better understanding of digital tools and online safety.
Participants recognized the value of these learning opportunities in their everyday lives. Laarni Azarcon, who attended the jobseekers’ session, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, particularly its lessons on strengthening digital skills and using technology responsibly. Meanwhile, senior participant Cheryl Alquiza highlighted how the AI session helped her become more aware of online scams and the precautions needed when using digital and financial services.
DICT-CAR resource speaker Engineer Katherine Aguilar also emphasized the importance of making technology accessible to different generations, noting how the participation of children and senior citizens demonstrated that digital learning has no age limit. She likewise recognized SM City Baguio as a venue that provides opportunities for the community to become more familiar with emerging technologies.
Through these initiatives, SM City Baguio and DICT-CAR reinforce their shared commitment to making digital education more accessible and relevant to the needs of the community. By supporting jobseekers, introducing children to emerging technologies, and helping senior citizens become more digitally aware, the partnership highlights the importance of continuous learning in an increasingly connected world.
In your most loved mall, SM continues to bring meaningful programs closer to communities, it remains committed to creating opportunities that allow more Filipinos to develop new skills, expand their knowledge, and participate confidently in the digital age. Because sharing the love also means making learning accessible to everyone, at every stage of life.
