BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (Dec.7) – Roy Abalos fired a two over for 34 points and lead Team Master to 119 and a 13-point advantage to kick off their Fil-B campaign on a rainy Monday morning at the Camp John Hay golf course in the 75th Januarius Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament.
This as Eddmari/MCG churned in 94 points to take an eight-point lead in Am B at the Baguio Country Club layout. Victor Antigua had a 29, while Rolly Duran and Rolando delos Santos chipped an identical 28 as the team lead Srixon IMG in the race for top honors.
Srixon had a pair of 27s from Gab Macalagum and RJ Rizalda, while Yancy Siladan and Romeo Lopez added an identical 26s for the team’s 106. At sole third and two shots down Royal Northwoods I which assembled 104 from the 27 of Peter Pancho, a pair of 26 from Tomas Joson IV and Henry Villanueva and 25 from Bernard Thomas Joson.
They lead Tipsy Pig TLC by four points. Michael John Mangio led Eddmari/MCG with 26 points, Marc Cruz made 25, while Crisostomo Garbio and Angelito Pineda chipped 23 and 20 points, respectively. Eight shots down at 86 is Alpha Phi Omega GC – Omega after a 26 from Demi Saclot, 23 from Bernie Andres, 19 from Jay Millonado and 18 from Leo de Castro.
At third is Master Golfers which fired 82 points, just a point off Modern Titos – La Cabrera. At the back nine, Nick Ventura had 22 points and power Baguio Blue Bloods – Eagles to an 81 and a three-day lead in Fil – E Lander Miranda had a 21, Ron Cadiogan made 20, while Maximo Sumeg-ang, Jr. added 18 for the Blue Bloods – Eagles and lead Team Kumpadres by just three points. Kevin Capuyan had 22 to pace Kumpadres which tallied 78 as the two local teams start an all-Baguio showdown with the nearest team securing 64. Warren Dagupon chipped 20, while Ramir Badua and Benjie Kimmayong added 19 and 17 points, respectively, in the four to play, four to count event backed by Toyota and Mazda.
Fourteen points down is Yokohama Eagles with 64 and just a point off APO GC – Team Phi which assembled 63 markers. Royal Northwoods 2 scored a flight best 80 and take a 21-point advantage over 11 other teams in Am E. Scoring for the team are Steve Tycangco with 22, a pair of 20 from Gimo Asuncion and Tan To Myke, while Dennis Salazar contributed 18 points.
The best placed team of the 11 other competitors is Avanti Transport Services / Laguna Ice 2 which tallied 59 led by the pair of 19s from Ranie Carlos and Francisco Zubia III. Two teams occupy the third spot with 57 – Fil-Am League of Golfers – Chicago 2 and Team Abrown, while three are just a shot down with Isabela Builders, Cool Jocks 2 and Januarius Ovialand Golf 2.
The Fil and Am D teams teed of late and are expected to finish by 5PM and later. Meanwhile, Eastridge – Pinehomes will start its title defense of the premier Fil Championship at the CJH course tomorrow.
It will be an early start for the defending champion which is the favorite in the absence of many time champion Manila Southwoods which will miss the annual tournament since 1997.
This year’s Fil-Am will also miss the national team whose members are seeing action in the Southeast Asian Games. Resistance is expected to come from Batangas Barakos Supremo, IMG/SPES, SPES I and title sponsor Januarius Golf Team 1. FMR
