LA UNION, Philippines — Bridging the distance between remote communities and educational opportunities, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) has established Community Learning Resource Centers in Barangay Gallano in Aringay and Barangay Bulalaan in Sudipen, La Union on October 28-29, 2026, to strengthen grassroots literacy and make learning resources more accessible to young learners.
With the support of Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, the initiative aims to strengthen grassroots literacy and ensure that children and youth in upland communities have additional resources to support their studies and broaden their knowledge.
In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), these centers now house books and laptop, along with DOST’s STARBOOKS, which offers science references, including biology and chemistry materials, and educational tutorials.
Barangay Bulalaan Punong Barangay Eric Balisong thanked the provincial government for the initiative and vowed to maintain the center for the benefit of residents of Bulalaan and neighboring Barangay Duplas. The centers are set to provide lasting learning opportunities for children while strengthening literacy and knowledge development at the grassroots level.
