President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday commended the timely completion of the US$80-million United Parcel Service (UPS) Clark International Air Hub in Pampanga, underscoring the importance of delivering major investments as promised to create more jobs for Filipinos, particularly outside Metro Manila.
Speaking at the facility’s grand opening, President Marcos said the project, which began construction in February 2025 and opened as scheduled in October 2026, demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that investment pledges are fulfilled and that they bring tangible economic benefits to local communities.
“Skilled jobs are scarce sometimes to find outside Metro Manila. Big investments like this, however, often announced but slow to finish. But this is being changed,” President Marcos said in his speech.
“When an investor promises a project, it is our job to ensure it opens on schedule. This one certainly did,” the President added.
To ensure that other investments in Clark are delivered on time, President Marcos said he has directed the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to submit reports on unfinished projects, including their target opening dates.
The directive seeks to ensure that investment commitments are fulfilled within their intended timelines so that communities can benefit sooner from new businesses, employment opportunities, and economic activities.
The President likewise stressed that timely project delivery is essential to maintaining investor confidence.
The new UPS hub has already created nearly 600 jobs in operations, security, information technology, and mechanical services, with many positions filled by residents of Pampanga and surrounding areas.
Covering 30,000 square meters, the new UPS facility is more than 15 times the size of the company’s previous hub in Clark.
Equipped with advanced automated sorting technology, the hub can process an average of 46,000 packages daily, more than nine times the previous facility’s capacity of 5,000 packages.
Its maximum processing capacity has also increased twelvefold, from 1,250 to 15,000 packages per hour.
The facility features UPS Philippines’ first automated small-package sorting system, capable of processing up to 9,000 packages weighing less than three kilograms per hour.
The new hub is expected to improve logistics services for Filipino exporters and small businesses by providing faster transit times, earlier deliveries, and extended pickup deadlines.
UPS currently operates 170 weekly flight segments to and from Clark International Airport, connecting businesses to markets across the Asia-Pacific region, India, Europe, and the United States.
UPS has maintained operations in Clark since 2002 and will mark its 25th year at the airport in 2027. | PND, and Tulong-Aral. | PND
