Under the leadership of PGen Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP), the organization continues to strengthen community-based efforts to promote public safety, as the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) reported the voluntary surrender of 1,762 loose firearms following the completion of Project R.T. T. 3389 across all 1,721 barangays under the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
As of September 22, all five police districts of Iloilo PPO had reached 100 percent barangay coverage under the initiative. The accomplishment reflects sustained engagement among police personnel, local officials, and residents in encouraging the proper accounting and voluntary surrender of loose firearms.
For PGen Nartatez, the accomplishment demonstrates how consistent police presence and cooperation with the public can translate into concrete gains in public safety.
“We are grateful to the people of Iloilo for working with us. The 1,762 firearms voluntarily surrendered show that when communities and the police work together, we can make a real difference. Hindi lang ito tungkol sa bilang ng mga baril; it is about people choosing to do their part to keep their communities safe. We hope to see the same cooperation sustained in the days ahead,” PGen Nartatez said.
Project R.T. T. 3389, or Restrict, Track, and Turn-in, is a community-based initiative that strengthens the accounting of loose firearms through police presence, coordination with local officials, and voluntary surrender. It promotes responsible firearm ownership while helping communities maintain a safer environment.
The initiative forms part of the PNP’s continuing efforts under its Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes responsive police operations supported by coordination and community participation. It also complements the administration’s broader peace and public safety efforts under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The accomplishment underscores the PNP’s continuing commitment to bringing police service closer to the people and advancing the vision of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman—a police organization that works with the public in building safer and more secure communities.
