LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines – Participants collected 1,129 kilograms of trash during the International Coastal Cleanup in Barangay Talao-Talao, here on Saturday, Sept. 19,

It was spearheaded by SM Cares, through SM City Lucena, and about 500 volunteers attended, including representatives from the academe, government agencies, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.

The participants were the Bureau of Fire Protection-Lucena, Philippine Coast Guard, PNP-Lucena, Girl Scouts of the Philippines-Lucena Council, Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Lucena Council, Tactical Air Wing South Luzon- Air Force, DENR-PENRO Quezon, CENRO Tayabas, Quezon, and Lucena City Tourism Offices, and Lucena City General Services Office.

Also taking part were Kiwanis Division 4C, Lucena City-Quezon Pharmacists Association, Interglobal School, Sacred Heart College, Hyong Hyang Institute of Technology Inc., Mayao Parada Agriculture Integrated School, and 1975 The Original.

The International Coastal Cleanup takes place every third Saturday of September, aiming to mobilize communities against marine litter and raise awareness about responsible waste management.
