543 dengue cases recorded in Baguio, possible increase this August

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Health officials are concerned that the current 543 dengue cases may increase before the end of October and may decrease by mid-October

This was reported by City Health Officer Celia Brillantes and City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Chief Donabel Panes, when they appeared before the city council session recently, to discuss the dengue situation in Baguio City

According to the two health officials, the city’s monitoring and data collection in recent years has helped them identify the usual pattern of dengue cases, allowing them to predict seasonal increases.

In the data, from 2025 to 2026, the CHSO recorded a total of 1,657 dengue cases, including seven deaths.

The cases include 833 males and 823 females, of which 553 were admitted patients. During the discussion, nine patients were admitted and none developed severe dengue.

The CHSO clarified that the number of patients served by Baguio health facilities does not necessarily represent the number of dengue cases among Baguio residents.

Of the more than 1,000 cases recorded over the two-year period, approximately 540 were Baguio residents, while the rest came from neighboring municipalities that also rely on the city’s health facilities.

The CHSO also reported that dengue testing kits remain available at health centers, emphasizing that early detection remains crucial in preventing deaths, especially since most dengue cases can be managed when patients seek medical attention early.

For now, the CHSO urges residents to continue to follow the DOH’s measures to prevent dengue including the 4S strategy of finding and destroying mosquito breeding areas, ensuring self-protection, early consultation, and supporting fogging or spraying in hotspot areas if necessary.

Meanwhile, DOH data showed 4,436 dengue cases in the entire Cordillera Administrative Region from January to August 8, 2026.

Cases increased by 9% in Abra, 23% in Benguet, 44% in Ifugao, and 34% in Kalinga, while other areas including Baguio recorded a decrease.
